Snyder has 42 medals across major championships, out of which 30 are gold. In 2018, Snyder's stellar performance earned him his third straight NCAA Heavyweight Championship title, which made him the first wrestler to achieve such an achievement in nearly 30 years.
He was honored as the youngest American to win the Ivan Yarygin Memorial Grand Prix title, considered the world's toughest open wrestling championship. At the 2017 World Championships, Snyder went head-on with one of the best active freestylers in the world, Abdulrashid Sadulaev. He defeated the latter and broke his 75-match win streak.
However, he faced defeat from Sadulaev in the Tokyo Olympics match-up and settled for silver. In the wake of Russian athletes boycotting the Paris Games and protesting against the International Olympic Committee's decision to permit only selective athletes, Snyder will aim for another Olympic gold.
Kyle Snyder: "I’m not too worried about becoming a two-time gold medalist"
Kyle Snyder is en route to taste another victory at Champ de Mars Arena in Paris. When asked about his mindset going into the Games, he confidently said:
"I’m not too worried about becoming a two-time gold medalist. My only concern is competing hard. Somebody’s got to win. Why not me?” said Kyle Snyder to Sports Illustrated.
Although Saduleav will compete in his weight bracket, he will face a 21-year-old Russian wrestler, Akhmed Tazhudinov, who represents Bahrain. The latter previously defeated Kyle Snyder at the 2023 World Championships.
