With a stunning anchor leg, Sha'Carri Richardson took the United States in the women’s 4x100m relay final at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

In the first heat on Thursday (August 8) at the Stade de France, Richardson, 200m Olympic champion Gabrielle Thomas, Melissa Jefferson, and Twanisha Terry showed why Team USA is being considered the favorite to clinch gold in the women’s 4x100m relay.

With a time of 41.94 seconds, they finished ahead of Germany (42.15 seconds) and Switzerland (42.38 seconds). In the second heat, Great Britain (42.03 seconds) finished first, followed by France (42.13 seconds) and Jamaica (42.35 seconds).

Canada (42.50 seconds) and the Netherlands (42.64 seconds), the two fastest teams outside of the top three, also progressed to the final.

Richardson and Co. will return to action on Friday for the final, with the event scheduled to start at 19:30 local time.

Team USA's men also dazzled at the Stade de France on Thursday and qualified for the men's 4x100m relay final at the Paris Olympics.

Newly crowned 100m champion Noah Lyles sat out of the heats to keep himself in the best shape for Thursday night’s 200m final. In his absence, the quartet of Christian Coleman, Fred Kerley, Kyree King, and Courtney Lindsey won the first heat with a time of 37.47 seconds.

South Africa (37.94 seconds) finished second, while Great Britain (38.04 seconds) finished third. In the second heat, Tokyo Olympics bronze medallists China finished first (38.24 seconds), followed by France (38.34 seconds) and Canada (38.39 seconds). Reigning Olympic champions Italy (38.07 seconds) managed to sneak into the final along with Japan (38.06 seconds).

While the Jamaican women managed to make it to the final despite the absence of Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce and Shericka Jackson, the men, who had 100m silver medallist Kishane Thompson in their ranks, finished fifth in the second heat and failed to reach the final.

The men’s 4x100m relay final is set to take place on Friday, just 15 minutes after the women’s 4x100m relay final.
