When is Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone competing next at the Paris Olympics 2024? Everything about American's schedule in 400m hurdles

Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone eased through the finish line unchallenged at the 400m Hurdles at Paris Olympics 2024, clocking a time of 53.60 in heat 5 of the competition. The defending Olympic champion won her heat by a considerable margin, with Noura Ennadi crossing the finish line in 55.26 seconds.

McLaughlin-Levrone is now scheduled to run in the women's 400m hurdles semifinals, which are taking place on August 06. The defending Olympic champion will be spotted in action at 2:07 p.m. EST, with the live-action streaming on NBC and Peacock.

The finals of the women's 400m hurdles will be taking place on August 08 at 3:25 p.m. The finals will witness the biggest clash of the year as McLaughlin-Levrone takes on Femke Bol for the first time in two years. The two are the fastest 400m hurdlers in history and are expected to battle hard for the gold medal.

The American is also expected to compete in the women's 4x400m relay competition. However, USATF hasn't released the list of athletes competing in the event yet.

Bol and Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone have only raced twice each other in four years, once at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and once at the 2022 World Championships. It was the American who emerged victorious both times. Although the Dutch runner was faster during Round 1 of the competition at the Paris Olympics, McLaughlin-Levrone will have an edge over the world champion in the finals owing to her experience.

Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone is the first woman to break the 52 and 51-second mark in 400m hurdles, and given the way she has been running this year and close competition from Femke Bol, the American may be close to breaking the 50-second mark as well.

McLaughlin-Levrone was asked about the possibility of breaking the barrier after her season opener at the Edwin Moses Legends Meet, and she replied:

"I have no idea you know it's really, it's a progression. I know that the numbers are possible but it's a matter of getting there and I think people don't understand as an athlete you're not gonna come out of the gates ready to do that all the time. You know it's a human body that's not actually meant to push this hard, but we are pushing it through its limits. So I just wanna continue to stay healthy," she said.

The defending Olympic champion later lowered her world record to 50.65s at the U.S. Olympic Trials in late June. With Femke Bol breaking the 52-second mark two weeks later, Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone will know she will have to be closer or even faster than her world record to win the gold at the Paris Olympics.
