Which USA female gymnasts qualified for individual and all-around finals of the Paris Olympics? Complete list ft. Simone Biles
The qualification rounds for the women's gymnastics event of the 2024 Paris Olympics took place on Sunday (July 28). Spanning across three sub-divisions, the preliminary round of the women's gymnastics event saw a dominant performance from the US gymnasts.
Four-time Olympic gold medalist, Simone Biles, navigated her path through to the finals of the individual all-around apparatus following a solid performance on the second day of the event. The 27-year-old amassed a point tally of 59.566 to reach the finals of the quadrennial event.
Biles also produced splendid performances in vaults (15.300 points), floor exercises (14.600 points), and balance beam (14.733 points) during the prelims and will also feature in the finals of these individual events.
Besides Biles, the reigning all-around Olympic champion, Suni Lee, also punched her ticket for the finals of the individual all-around apparatus. She finished second in the point leaderboard just behind Biles with 56.132 points. The 21-year-old also qualified for the finals in the uneven bars and balance beam apparatuses after finishing with 14.866 and 14.033 points, respectively, during the prelims.
A third member of the United States, Jordan Chiles also finished among the top eight places during the qualifying rounds in the all-around event but will not feature in the finals due to the IOC rules that state only the first two position holders of a nation among the top eight during prelims will qualify for the finals of the event even if there is a third or more gymnast among top eight positions from the same country.
Due to these rules, Chiles also missed the opportunity to qualify for the vault apparatus finals as Biles and Jade Carey finished above her in the leaderboard. However, she will compete in the floor exercise finals on Tuesday beside Biles after she finished in the second position with 13.866 points in the apparatus.
Jade Carey, who competed only in the floor exercises and vaults on Sunday, qualified for the vaults finals of the 2024 Paris Olympics besides Biles after finishing second on the leaderboard with 14.433 points.
