Alexis Holmes is among the fastest 400m runners from the USA who is competing at the Paris Olympics 2024. She has run two of the top 10 fastest times of her career at the Olympic Games and is a medal contender in the finals.
Holmes sprung into prominence at last year's USATF Outdoor Championships. She qualified for the World Championships and was named in the mixed 4x400m relay team, which won the gold medal. She competed in the individual 400m at the 2024 World Indoor Championships and won the bronze medal.
The 24-year-old ran a personal best time of 49.78s to qualify for the Paris Olympics at the U.S. Track and Field Team Trials. Although Holmes was third, she will be the only American competing in the women's 400m final on August 9.

She clocked 50.35s to place second in heat 6 of the women's 400m Round 1 before running the second fastest time of her life to qualify for the final. Alexis Holmes was born on January 28, 2000, in Hamden, Connecticut. She was born to parents Dawn Stanton-Holmes and Craig Holmes and has one sibling, her brother CJ Holmes, who plays football at Duke State University.

Holmes attended Cheshire Academy in her early years, which is a college preparatory boarding and day school. She developed a passion for the sport and received a basketball scholarship as well. However, Holmes soon realized her calling was in track and field.
Holmes joined Penn State University for the 2018-2019 season before moving to the University of Kentucky. She was part of the school’s 4x400m relay team that set the collegiate record and won the 2022 NCAA title. Holmes had earlier won Big Ten Indoor and Outdoor titles in the 400m with Penn State Nittany Lions.

Holmes had a highly successful collegiate career before graduating from Kentucky in 2022. She won the SEC Indoor 400m title in her first year with Kentucky before earning two All-American honors for the COVID-canceled NCAA Championships. Holmes won her first NCAA title in 2022 in the women's 4x400m relay. She placed fourth in the individual 400m event.
The 24-year-old continued her relay career success to the international stage, helping Team USA win the gold in the mixed 4x400m relay with a world record. She won the gold over the distance at the 2024 Indoor World Championships while also securing bronze and silver medals in the 400m and 4x400m relay, respectively.
