Top USA athletes in track and field at the Paris Olympics 2024
With the athletics competitions having commenced on August 1 with the 20 km race walk, the in-stadia action begins on August 2.
The preliminaries for events such as the men's shot put, men's decathlon, women's 100m, women's 800m, and the women's discus throw will begin tomorrow, August 2. Here are some of the top USA track and field athletes who will test their luck on August 2:
#3) Valarie Allman:
At the Paris Olympics, the USA's Valarie Allman will be aiming to repeat her heroics from the Tokyo Olympics 2020, where she won the gold medal in the women's discus throw. Allman won the silver medal at the 2023 World Championships, as well as the gold medal in the IAAF 2023 Diamond League.
#2) Ryan Crouser:
All eyes will be on the reigning Olympic champion Ryan Crouser, who is looking for an unprecedented feat. He will be aiming to become the first shot putter in the history of the Summer Olympics to perform a hattrick of gold medals. If it's his day, no one should be surprised if he breaks his own world record.
#1) Sha'Carri Richardson:
August 2 is the day for Sha'Carri Richardson to prove herself in the women's 100m at the Paris Olympics. Her competition is tough, but the American sprinter is known for springing surprises. If Richardson wins the Olympic gold medal at the Paris Olympics, she will break an almost three-decade-old drought of an Olympic gold medal, since Gail Devers last won it for the USA in this event at the Atlanta Olympics in 1996.
