Katie Moon is one of the best athletes to have ever competed in pole vault. The Tokyo Olympics gold medalist is married to Hugo Moon, who is an accomplished rowing coach.
Katie Moon and Hugo Moon's love story began in 2018, when they met in Pullman, Washington. After dating for a few years, they got married on December 31, 2022. Following their marriage, the pole vaulter changed her last name from Nageotte to Moon.
Hugo Moon is known for being a successful rowing coach. He began his career as a rower and is currently the assistant rowing coach at The University of Tulsa. He has been serving in the role since 2022.
Before this, he worked as the director and head coach of Gainesville Area Rowing in Florida from August 2019 to July 2022, where he mentored athletes to state, district, and regional titles, including a bronze medal at the Men’s U19 1x at the 2022 National Championships. He also conducted training programs, created race schedules and managed social media, among other roles as part of the organization.
Additionally, he also served as the women’s head coach and graduate assistant at Washington State from 2017 to 2019, graduate assistant at Canford School between 2016 and 2017, and rowing - women’s head coach at Warwick University from 2015 to 2016.

During the 2022 World Athletics Championships in Eugene, Oregon, Hugo Moon was spotted in the stands at Hayward Field, cheering for his wife Katie Moon. However, what drew everyone's attention was his black t-shirt featuring Katie's picture in the center.
In an interview with NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth, Katie talked about how they have a fun relationship. She also recalled the time Hugo wore the t-shirt during the 2022 World Championships:
"We have a very joking relationship, he put my most unflattering face, big and bold on his T-shirt.
Katie added that Hugo may again do the same thing at the 2024 Paris Olympics:
"So, if you see that in Paris ... you didn't."
Notably, Katie Moon has qualified for the women’s pole vault finals of the 2024 Paris Olympics after clearing 4.60m during the qualifications of the event. She is defending her Olympic title, with her finals at the Paris Olympics slated for August 7, 2024.
