Who is Quincy Hall's coach and where does he train? All about the American athlete's mentor
American track and field star Quincy Hall has been making waves with his stellar performances, especially during the 2024 Paris Olympics. He qualified for the 400m final with an impressive 43.95-second in his debut appearance at the Games and is now poised to bring gold medal glory to his country.
Hall is a University of South Carolina alumnus, who ran for the team from 2019 to 2020. During this time, he became a multi-time All-American and SEC champion in the 400m for the indoor and outdoor seasons in 2019. He strives to become the first male Gamecock to medal in the 400m event since Otis Harris did so in 2004, as he steps onto the stage on August 7.
Curtis Allen, who was the assistant coach for sprints and relays at UCLA from 2017 to 2022, currently coaches Quincy Hall. Before that, Allen was the head track and field coach at the College of the Sequoias, where he guided the men’s team to a state championship in 2017 and secured multiple Top-5 finishes for both men’s and women’s teams. It is believed that Hall and Allen first met during the 26-year-old's time at COS.
Besides Hall, Allen coached Deajah Stevens, a 2016 Olympian who won the 2017 USATF 200m championship and claimed California Junior College titles in both the 200m and 400m in 2015.
Quincy Hall also trained briefly this summer under South Carolina assistant coach Kevin Brown.
Quincy Hall receives high praise from Curtis Allen and Kevin Brown before Paris Olympics 2024 campaign
After Quincy Hall clocked the fastest 400-meter time of the year at 43.80 seconds and finished sixth in his professional debut at the Monaco Diamond League, his coach Curtis Allen praised him, saying that achieving this goal had been a long-time dream.
"He knew he could do it, that was the goal from day one, " Allen told the media. "But here (at COS in 2017 and 2018), he was the only athlete in California state history to win the 400, open 400, 400 hurdles, and the mile relay."
Kevin Brown also spoke highly of Hall after he qualified for the Paris Olympics, commending his dedication.
"He trains really hard and is very dedicated. He doesn’t miss workouts. He does a lot of things on his own that he takes responsibility for. It’s awesome to have our athletes in the Olympics," Brown told the reporters.
"When you recruit them, those are their dreams. When you see it come to fruition, it’s great. It reinforces the commitment that we have here at South Carolina to help these athletes reach their dreams," he added.
