Sunny Choi is an American breakdancer who qualified for the Paris Olympics 2024 after her heroics at the 2023 edition of the Pan American Games in Santiago. Choi will compete alongside Logan Edra and Victor Montalvo at the quadrennial event.
Choi turned in a strong performance at the Pan American games in Santiago, grabbing the gold medal. She was followed by Colombia's Luisa Tejada and the USA's Vickie Chang in second and third positions, respectively. This top-placed podium finish made Choi the first American breakdancer to qualify for the mega event in Paris.
In a recent interview with Fox News Digital, Choi opened up about how she came to realize what it meant to be representing the USA in an Olympic event. She stated:
"To see people from all different places all coming together for one cause and to be able to connect and cheer for your favorite people and root for all the other countries. It was just such a beautiful experience to be able to connect in that way that I realized this is what representing Team USA is about. Like, this is what our nation is." [via Fox News]

Choi was born in Cookeville, Tennessee on November 10, 1988, to Kyung-Ju and Jung-In Choi. Following her birth, her parents moved to Kentucky, and later on in 2012, the 35-year-old moved to Queens, New York. Choi has three brothers: Jin, Joon, and Young.

Choi completed her education at the Wharton School of Business in New York which is one of the business schools at the University of Philadelphia. She completed her graduation in 2011 with a degree in marketing.

Besides her gold medal at the 2023 Pan American Games, Choi's most formidable achievement in her career came in 2022 during the World Games in Birmingham during which she won a silver medal. Besides, Choi also finished second and seventh at the World Urban Games in 2019 and the WDSF World Championships in 2022 respectively. She has won silver at the 2023 Pan American Championships.
