"I'm the center of attention" - Mondo Duplantis opens up on the struggles of traveling with the equipment
While track athletes easily travel with compact suitcases, field athletes such as Mondo Duplantis have to travel with their unique equipment, designed specifically for their sport. Although the height of the pole varies according to the preferences, it ranges between 4 and 5.20 meters.
In an interview with NBC, the pole vaulter opened up about the struggles of traveling with the humongous equipment, stating he becomes the "center of attention".
"It's very difficult to travel with them," he said. "When I'm in the airport, I'm just yelling, 'excuse me!' like the whole time...And everybody's just so confused. They think it might be skis, but (the bag) is like 20-feet long."
"I'm the center of attention when I walk into an airport with the sticks. That's for sure," he added.
The men's pole vault final at the 2024 Paris Olympics will be held on August 5, 2024.
