Why USA's skateboarding team didn't compete on the first day of the Paris Olympics 2024 ?
The United States men's skateboarding team was all set to compete on the first day of the Paris Olympics (July 27) at the La Concorde 3. The prelims for the men's street event were scheduled for 12:00 PM CET while the finals were to be held at 5:00 PM CET.
However, wet weather around the French capital due to the heavy rain forced the organizers of the event to reschedule the event to Monday, July 29. The weather conditions were also adverse during the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympics on Friday with the streets of Paris awash with rainfall.
The timings for the prelims and the finals on Monday will be the same as it was for the first day of the schedule. The World Skate, the major regulating authority for skateboarding across the globe issued a statement following this forced rescheduling of the event on the first day of the Paris Olympics 2024. It stated:
"Due to adverse overnight weather conditions and following a meeting this morning with all relevant organisers, the decision has been taken to postpone Men's Street Skateboarding at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games until Monday 29th of July."
Apart from the men's street events on Monday, the US women's street skateboarding team will be in action on the second day of the quadrennial event with the timings being the same as that of the first day.
