Suni Lee spoke about the excessive shushing by the crowd, including that subjected towards herself and Simone Biles during the balance beam final. Neither of the two were able to win a medal in the discipline while also falling during their respective performances.
Biles and Lee both qualified for the balance beam final but their performances were far from impressive. Both fell during the event and failed to make it to the podium. Biles and Lee both secured scores of 13.100, finishing fifth and sixth respectively.
Speaking after the balance beam final, the latter spoke about the crowd shushing her and Simone Biles just for cheering. Lee said that they did not like the crowd's gesture, which also happened during her routine.
"You could feel the tension in the room. I mean, the crowd shushing us for cheering. We are just not – we did not like that, just because it's just so silent in there. I love hearing my teammates cheer for me... Me and Simone were like, 'Why are they shushing?' Like, we're just trying to cheer. But yea, she came off, and she was like, 'I don't know why they were shushing in the middle of my routine,'" Suni Lee said.
The balance beam podium at Paris Olympics 2024 did not have a single American, with Italians Alice D'Amato and Manila Esposito clinching gold and bronze while Zhou Yaqin won silver.

Simone Biles then won the all-around gold after securing a score of 15.766 in the final while Suni Lee clinched bronze with a score of 13.933. The former clinched her third gold at the Paris Olympics after winning the vault event ahead of Rebeca Andrade and compatriot Jade Carey.
Suni Lee's third medal in the French capital came in the uneven bars, where she finished behind Kaylia Nemour and Qiu Qiyuan. Biles fetched a fourth medal in the Paris Olympics by securing silver in the floor exercise event, finishing behind Rebeca Andrade while Jordan Chiles won bronze.
The 27-year-old now has 11 Olympic medals to her name while Suni Lee has six.
