Paris Olympics 2024: India's results on July 30 – Manu Bhaker and Sarabjot Singh win historic bronze; Dhiraj Bommadevara faces heartbreak
Tuesday, July 30, marked an eventful fourth day for the Indian contingent at the Paris Olympics 2024. The Indian athletes experienced the highest highs and also went through some heart-wrenching defeats.
The highlight of the day undoubtedly belonged to the shooting range, where Manu Bhaker and Sarabjot Singh clinched the bronze medal in the 10m Air Pistol mixed team event. The duo delivered a stellar performance, defeating South Korea 16-10.
This victory was particularly historic for Manu Bhaker, who became the first Indian woman to win two medals at a single Olympic Games. She now joins an elite group of Indian athletes who have secured two Olympic medals.
In badminton, the men's doubles pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty continued their impressive run. They secured a dominant win in their final group stage match, topping their group and advancing to the quarterfinals. The Indian men's hockey team also brought joy to fans with a solid 2-0 victory against Ireland.
18-year-old archer, Bhajan Kaur secured two impressive wins to advance to the last 16. However, it was a day of mixed fortunes as Dhiraj Bommadevara experienced heartbreak. In a tense shoot-off against Canada's Eric Peters, both archers scored a 10, but Peters' arrow was 2.4 cm closer to the center, handing him the win and leaving Bommadevara heartbroken.
The Indian boxers had an off day. All three boxers in action faced defeats in their respective bouts. Preeti Pawar lost to Yeni Arias, while Amit Panghal and Jasmine Lamboria were defeated by Patrick Chinyemba and Nesthy Petecio, respectively.
