Let's have a look at the top five athletes to watch out for during the competition:
Racers Grand Prix 2024: Top Athletes to watch out for
#1 Noah Lyles
The 2020 Tokyo Olympics bronze medalist, Noah Lyles, will be leading the charge in the men's 100-m event. Lyles has had a fabulous start to his season, having already clinched titles at the Tom Jones Memorial Invitational and Bermuda Grand Prix.
Lyles will have an opportunity to continue his recent success and make the most of the tough competition on Saturday before the Olympic trials take place the following month.
#2 Julien Alfred
The 22-year-old Saint Lucian sprinter, Julien Alfred,, will be a top feature in the women's 100-m sprint. Alfred has been breathing absolute fire since the start of the season, having clinched her first-ever indoor title at Glasgow (women's 60-m event) during the 2024 edition of the World Athletics Indoor Championships.
She also clinched a silver medal in the women's 100-m event in the recently concluded Prefontaine Classic. However, other athletes from Jamaica, like Shasalee Forbes, will give Alfred some fierce competition in this competition.
#3 Abby Steiner
Abby Steiner, a two-time World Championships gold medalist (2022 Eugene 4x100-m relays, 4x400-m relays), will be one of the top athletes to watch out for in the women's 200-m event of the competition. With a personal best of 22.09 seconds, the Ohio native also holds the indoor record in the women's 200-m event.
#4 Hansle Parchment
The 2020 Tokyo Olympics gold medalist, Hansle Parchment, will be one of the athletes to watch in the men's 110-m hurdles event of the Racers Grand Prix 2024. Parchment recently missed a bronze medal at the Prefontaine Classic 2024 as he ended fourth, behind Grant Halloway, Daniel Roberts, and Freddie Crittenden.
Thus, he will be looking to make a strong comeback and finish in the top three in the upcoming tournament in Jamaica. He will, however, face strong competition from the American duo of Trey Cunningham and Michael Dickson.
#5 Shashalee Forbes
The 2016 Rio Olympics silver medalist, Shashalee Forbes, will also be a top feature at the Racers Grand Prix 2024 in Jamaica. She will participate in the women's 100-m event and will look to give some tough competition to other young athletes, such as Julien Alfred.
