Top 10 American swimmers who earned the most prize money at Paris Olympics ft. Torri Huske and Katie Ledecky

Team USA didn't have their best outing in swimming at the Paris Olympics, but a number of swimmers from the team still walked away with plenty of monetary gains. While the IOC doesn't award participants any cash rewards for their performances, the athletes are compensated by USOPC and USA Swimming.

Overall, American swimmers won 28 medals at the Paris Olympics, eight of which were gold. This means that they won ten more medals than Australia, who finished second on the swimming medal tally. With that, here's a look at which members of the USA swim team won the most prize money while in Paris.


#10. Jack Alexy - $73,630.95

Jack Alexy had a stellar run at his debut Olympic Games. Competing in the men's 4x100m freestyle relay and the men's 4x100m medley relay, he won a gold and a silver medal. His prize money totaled $73,630, of which nearly $46,500 were for his top of the podium finish in the freestyle relay, alongside teammates Chris Guiliano, Hunter Armstrong, Caeleb Dressel, Ryan Held, and Matthew King.

Ryan Murphy made his third appearance at the Olympic Games. But the 29-year-old was unable to live up to his previous standards. He still made three trips to the podium, claiming a medal of each color. He won gold in the 4x100m mixed medley relay, silver in the men's 4x100 medley relay, and bronze in the 100m backstroke. He was rewarded for his efforts with a total purse of a little more than $96,000.

Nic Fink was offered his chance at redemption at the 2024 Olympics after his failure to win a medal in Tokyo. Exorcizing the demons of his past, he was a force to be reckoned with in Paris, winning three medals and earning more than $116,000 in prize money. The 31-year-old won gold in the 4x100m mixed medley relay and silver in the 100m breaststroke and 4x100m medley.

After winning bronze at the Tokyo Olympics, Kate Douglass added four more medals to her collection in Paris. The University of Virginia swimmer was crowned champion in the 200m breaststroke, and upgraded her Tokyo bronze to a silver in the 200m medley. She was also a part of the gold and silver winning USA 4x100m medley and 4x100m freestyle relay teams, receiving cash awards of $116,562 as a result

#6. Caeleb Dressel - $118,943.45

In Paris, Caeleb Dressel missed out on an individual medal at the Olympics for the first time since 2016. However, he was still able to walk out of the Summer Games $118,943 richer thanks to his performances in the relay events. Alongside his teammates, Dressel claimed gold in the 4x100m freestyle relay, 4x100m mixed medley relay, as well as a silver in the 4x100m medley relay.

#5. Gretchen Walsh - $161,875.00

Gretchen Walsh made her Olympic Games debut in Paris, and went in as the favorite to claim the 100m butterfly title. However, she was forced to settle for silver in her trademark event. She still made more than $161,000 from her outing at the Paris Olympics thanks to her performance in the relays. She made it to the podium in the 4x100m medley, 4x100 mixed medley, and the 4x100 freestyle, claiming gold in the former two, and silver in the latter.

Bobby Finke was in sublime form at the Paris Olympics. After claiming the 1500m and 800m freestyle titles in Tokyo, he successfully defended his title in the former, and settled for a silver in the latter. On his way to his second consecutive Olympic gold in the 1500m, he also set a new world record, and was subsequently gifted $50,000 for the feat by Shannon Sharpe.

Regan Smith had claimed three podium finishes at the Tokyo Olympics, and added five more medals to that tally in Paris. She won gold in the 4x100 medley relay, 4x100m mixed medley relay, and silver in the 100m and 200m backstroke, as well as the 200m butterfly. Her performances saw her earn more than $225,000 in cash rewards.

The Paris Olympics marked more than a decade of Katie Ledecky's dominance, as she claimed a third-consecutive gold in the 800m freestyle, a second-consecutive gold in the 1500m freestyle, and a third-consecutive medal in the 400m freestyle. This, coupled with her gold in the women's 4x200m freestyle saw her earn more than $250,000 from the Olympic Games.

Torri Huske was the American swimmer who received the most prize money the from her appearance at the Paris Olympics. She claimed a whopping five medals in Paris, three of which were gold, resulting in a purse of $261,875. Huske’s standout performance was when she outdid compatriot Gretchen Walsh to claim the 100m butterfly title in what was one of the most thrilling races of the Paris Olympics.
