"Not gonna be a big-money car"— Tex Mex Motors star Rabbit recommends to target a "younger market" for Mercedes
Tex Mex Motors season 2 cast members recently gave viewers a glimpse into their everyday lives and how they renovate vintage cars. Their job includes hunting vintage cars and repainting and fixing broken parts. In episode 6, the Borderline Customs crew found a Mercedes, which they bought for 2,200 bucks. The cast member Rabbit shared he wanted to appeal to the younger market by transforming this car to appear cool and trendy.
Rabbit shared that European cars have been trending amongst buyers in their mid-twenties to early thirties. He planned on not putting the car for $80,000 but rather a more affordable range of around $30,000. Rabbit explained the reason behind this strategy was to expand their buyer range and target the younger market. He said that the execution of the paint was key to selling the car.
"We need to appeal to a younger market. Mid-twenties maybe, all the way to early thirties. We got something for their wheelhouse. Not everybody can afford a sixty, seventy or $80,000 build. This is not gonna be a big money car," he said.
Tex Mex Motors season 2 episode 6, titled Battle for the Benz, was released exclusively on Netflix on November 22, 2024. The episode synopsis reads:
"Rabbit and Scooter find competition when they go to Mexico to acquire a Mercedes. The Monte Carlo earns high praise from NASCAR champion Kyle Busch."
Rabbit's suggestion for the Mercedes on Tex Mex Motors season 2, episode 6
In Tex Mex Motors season 2, episode 6, Rabbit bought a vintage Mercedes for 2,200 bucks and said he planned to sell it for $30,000. The reasoning behind this decision was to attract younger customers within a range they can afford.
Rabbit stated that buying an $80,000 car would be out of range for customers in their early twenties to mid-thirties. Hence, they wanted to appeal to a younger audience by keeping the Mercedes price affordable.
In the episode, the Mercedes was described as "a symbol of Europen sophistication," which started to trend among younger buyers. It further mentioned:
"With all the high-end bells and whistles like power windows and leather upholstery, the 300 D quickly became a symbol of European sophistication. They say trends skip generations and old money Mercedes are trending with younger buyers looking for social media clout."
The Tex Mex Motors cast member told his team that the Mercedes should look cool and they should follow what's trending among the young buyers.
"I think we could make this cool, and it was cheap. We bought this thing for 2,200 bucks. I like the Euro stuff, it's trendy right now," he added.
During her confessional interview, Jemie told the cameras that they planned to paint the Mercedes so that it looks like it's "right out of a comic book." However, she had concerns about the paint job not leaving a "cool effect" but making it look like a "tacky clown car."
"Our plan to attract a younger audience is to put on a new trending paint style, which creates the illusion that this Mercedes pops right out of a comic book," Jemie said.
