"Squarebodies are red-hot"—Tex Mex Motors star Rabbit on redoing the iconic '84 Chevy C10
Tex Mex Motors is a reality TV series that focuses on classic car restorations. It follows Rabbit, Scooter, and the team at Borderland Customs as they transform old vehicles into high-value classics. The show currently airs on Netflix.
In episode 8, titled A Deal with El Diablo, which aired on November 22, 2024, the crew worked on one of their most profitable projects so far—a 1984 Chevy C10 squarebody. Known for its strong demand in the U.S. market and global appeal, this iconic truck became the episode's focus point.
While negotiating with a truck seller, Rabbit discovered the Chevy C10 and recognized its immense potential. Describing squarebodies as “red-hot,” he led the charge to purchase and restore the iconic truck. Rabbit said:
"It's running fat, but at the end of the day, squarebodies are red-hot."
From a negotiation that began at $50,000 to a final sale of $63,000, this project wasn’t just profitable. It made history for Borderland Customs, yielding the largest profit margin the crew had ever seen.
Negotiating the Chevy deal in Tex Mex Motors
At the end of episode 7 in Tex Mex Motors, Rabbit and Scooter headed to meet Lupe, a seller recommended by Chema. Lupe initially introduced the team to a truck priced at $13,000, citing its sentimental value. Rabbit, however, found the price too high.
As the conversation progressed, Rabbit noticed a 1984 Chevy C10 squarebody parked nearby. Curious, he inquired about it, and Lupe revealed that the truck belonged to her late son and wasn’t originally for sale. Despite this, Rabbit saw its potential, explaining that squarebodies were in high demand and could fetch $15,000–$20,000 in the U.S. market.
After some negotiation in Tex Mex Motors, Lupe agreed to part with the Chevy for just $2,500, much to the crew’s excitement. Wes called the C10 an icon among American trucks, particularly its squarebody generation produced from 1973 to 1987.
This deal, a steal at $2,500, marked the beginning of a new project on Tex Mex Motors. Rabbit declared the Chevy C10 a “no-brainer” investment.
Restoration success: From $2,500 to $63,000 in Tex Mex Motors
Back at Borderland Customs, the team evaluated the Chevy C10 and planned its restoration. Rabbit pointed out a few spots needing work. The crew spent $9,500 on modifications and repairs, ensuring the truck was ready for sale.
Rabbit continued:
"They're popular now. Do a stop, drop, and roll on this. Big wheels, four-six drop. These trucks make great money. I kinda like the horns."
Once restored, the truck attracted significant attention. A bidding war began between two buyers, starting at $50,000. The bids quickly escalated to a final offer of $63,000. Reflecting on the sale, Scooter said:
"When it comes to American trucks, the Chevy C10 is an icon around the world. And this squarebody is the most popular of them all."
For 15 years, these trucks were not that special, but they are currently in high demand. This sale delivered a profit of $53,000, making it the most lucrative project in the team’s history. The Borderland Customs crew celebrated this milestone, showcasing their ability to turn a $2,500 purchase into a record-breaking sale.
