Celebrating artistic excellence through the vision of Mastery
The series focuses on shedding light on how artists and masters face adversity but keep pushing to make sure no difficulty triumphs over them and their love for art.
Sushant Pathak of the production company, Stonex, explains,
"Art has the power to transcend boundaries and connect people on a profound level. With this docuseries, we aim to celebrate the extraordinary talent and passion of artists who are shaping the cultural landscape today."
He adds,
"This series is an ode to eleven legends who have achieved mastery in their fields."
Pathak further elaborates on the unique narratives presented in the series, from an artist who became a squirrel mother, a musician focused on soulful wellbeing, to an architect turned global dance performer.
"Each story in this series is unique and presents a perspective that is truly inspiring," says Pathak.
This sentiment is echoed by Mriidu Khosla, the director, and producer of all the episodes of the series, who shares,
"Mastery delves deep into the lives of esteemed artists, exploring their creative processes, internal struggles, and the lasting imprint they aspire to leave on time."
Artists and their journeys as insights from Mastery
The series features eleven artists that include Rooshad Shroff, Sandeep Narayan, Lekha Washington, Subodh Kerkar, Princess Pea, Rishabh Rikiram, Meenakshi Srinivasan, Vibha Galhotra, Priya Malik, Sarah Todd, and Benitha Perciyal.
Subodh Kerkar, famous for his ocean-inspired installations, tells us about his artistic beliefs:
"Art is often Greek and Latin to many. A veil of mystery is woven around it. This series attempts to lift that veil and make art accessible to all."
Kerkar's art symbolizes his artistic journey. His installations, like "The Keel," were recently displayed in the Netherlands, giving people a peek into his unique art style.
Carnatic musician Sandeep Narayan fuses traditional Carnatic music with various other genres. He also shared his thoughts on participating in Mastery:
"The Mastery docuseries effectively highlights the unbridled passion that fuels artists in their creative pursuits. Yet each artist’s journey remains uniquely distinct. It was exciting for me to take part in a series that explores diverse art forms and brings them to the mainstream cultural discourse."
He, along with other artists such as the mysterious Princess Pea and dancer Meenakshi Srinivasan, bring different artistic perspectives and practices to the series.
Sarah Todd, the Australian chef, is known for her success in India, especially Goa. Her story of going from a model to a top chef, fits the series' focus on artistic growth. The show covers her journey, from her beginning in Goa to bouncing back after her restaurant caught fire, showcasing her determination and talent.
