Turnpike Troubadours performs on Yellowstone Season 5: Here’s what you should know
In Episode 13 of Yellowstone Season 5, the Oklahoma-based band Turnpike Troubadours delivered an unforgettable performance that added a lively, authentic touch to the Dutton Ranch auction. The episode was titled Give the World Away and the band played two fan-favorite tracks, “Good Lord Lorrie” and “Pay No Rent.”
As Taylor Sheridan’s hit series barrels toward its finale, the Turnpike Troubadours’ Red Dirt sound gave the episode a dose of energy and grounded it in the Western, rural charm that Yellowstone has always embraced.
The scene centers around a high-stakes auction where the Duttons are forced to sell off assets in a last-ditch effort to save their ranch. Beth (Kelly Reilly), Kayce (Luke Grimes), and Rip (Cole Hauser), along with the ever-rowdy horse trainer Travis (played by Sheridan himself), bring their all to the event.
Meanwhile, Turnpike Troubadours take the stage to perform their 2012 hit “Good Lord Lorrie,” a classic story song from Goodbye Normal Street, and “Pay No Rent,” a deeply resonant track from their 2017 album A Long Way from Your Heart. Their live set elevated the mood and created a sense of authenticity to the auction. And to top all of that they made it feel like a genuine rural gathering, complete with beer, cattle, and foot-stomping music.
For fans of the band and the show alike, the Turnpike Troubadours’ appearance was a standout moment. Their music has already been featured in previous seasons of Yellowstone—notably Long Hot Summer Day in Season 2 and The Mercury in Season 3—but this marked their first on-screen performance.
The band’s rugged sound and lyrics fit perfectly with the show’s themes of family, land, and sacrifice. Ahead of the series finale, this live set was a reminder of what Yellowstone does best, that is the spirit of the American West in ways that feel real and relatable.
What happened in Yellowstone Season 5 Episode 14?
The Yellowstone Season 5 finale delivered a mix of tension, closure, and bloodshed as the Dutton family saga reached its breaking point. The episode began with John Dutton’s funeral, where the family gathered to say goodbye.
While the ceremony itself was somber, it quickly became clear that Beth (Kelly Reilly) was not going to let her father’s death go unanswered. Blaming Jamie (Wes Bentley) for his role in the chaos surrounding the ranch, Beth sets out for revenge.
After the funeral, Beth stormed into Jamie’s home armed with bear spray and a crowbar. The confrontation turned violent as she bashed him in the head twice and sprayed him in the face.
Jamie, desperate and enraged, managed to pin Beth to the ground, choking her. As he declared his intentions to tear down the family name and turn the ranch into an airport, Beth hit back with a devastating truth: the ranch was already sold to the Broken Rock Reservation for $1.1 million.
Before Jamie could follow through with his threats, Rip (Cole Hauser) arrived just in time. Together, Rip and Beth ended Jamie’s life—Beth stabbed him in the chest while Rip restrained him. Rip then disposed of Jamie’s body at the Dutton “train station,” the infamous dumping ground for the family’s enemies.
Meanwhile, Kayce (Luke Grimes) finalized the deal to sell the ranch to Chief Thomas Rainwater. In an effort to preserve the land, Kayce offered it at the original purchase price of $1.25 an acre, ensuring its protection. The deal also secured a portion of the ranch, East Camp, for Kayce, Monica (Kelsey Asbille), and their son Tate.
The finale of Yellowstone Season 5 wrapped with Beth and Rip planning their future away from the chaos, settling on a smaller ranch in Montana, while Kayce found his place leading a new legacy for his family.
