Will Argyle reprise his role in Stranger Things 5? Character's return explained

In season 4 of Stranger Things, they brought in a new character named Argyle, the delivery guy from Surfer Boy Pizza who loves to smoke weed. Fans instantly fell in love with him, thanks to his laid-back attitude and hilarious jokes that lit up the dark and spooky storyline.

As the series gears up for its fifth and last season, fans are curious about what's in store for Argyle in Hawkins. But it looks like he won't be making a comeback in the final season of Stranger Things, based on some recent news.

In a chat with Steve Varley on YouTube on January 11, 2024, Eduardo Franco mentioned he hadn't heard anything about returning for the new season. This news came after fans noticed he wasn't in the cast photo Netflix shared, as filming kicked off for Stranger Things season 5.

Franco thanked the fans for their support and understood their concerns, but he also admitted that there were some issues to address:

“I never got a phone call. So I think that’s it.”

Many fans are sad about this news because Argyle's character added a touch of charm and humor to the series.

A closer look at why Argyle won't be in Stranger Things 5

Argyle not being included in the final season of Stranger Things is just a way to simplify things and focus more on the core characters. Season 4 had a lot going on with too many characters, so it's time to bring the focus back to the original group and their fight against the supernatural in Hawkins.

Argyle was Jonathan Byers’ buddy from California, and was important in helping the gang find their way back to Hawkins. He was the ultimate ‘80s stoner guy and brought a fun vibe to the show. But now that the last season is going to dig into the main story and tie up loose ends with the Upside Down, it seems like there isn’t space for all the old characters.

We might not see Enzo (Dmitri) back in Stranger Things either, since Argyle won't return. Enzo played a big part in the Russia storyline in season 4, but with the focus on the original Hawkins crew, characters like him from subplots might not make a comeback afterall.

Fans are disappointed that Argyle won't be in season 5. They loved his humor and the energy he brought to the show, but they understand that the final season needs to focus on wrapping up the main plotlines and character arcs. Argyle's story didn't leave too many questions unanswered, so his character won't lack closure.

Franco brought something fresh to the show with his role as Argyle. His scenes with Jonathan, Eleven, and Mike gave the show a deeper look at friendship and loyalty. Fans loved his laid-back attitude and sense of humor, which was a nice contrast to the serious tone of the show. Franco, who has appeared in comedies like Booksmart and The Package, was grateful for the support from the fans, even though his time on the show was cut short.

As Stranger Things season 5 gets underway, fans are excited to see how the Duffer Brothers will wrap up the series. The final season will dive deep into the original Hawkins crew, exploring their backgrounds, ties to the Upside Down, and look into what's in store for them in the battle against the supernatural. Sadly, characters like Argyle won't be around, but fans are still excited for what's to come.
