MrBeast brings his YouTube magic to TV with Beast Games: Breaking down Beast Games episodes 1 and 2
Beast Games has made its debut on Amazon Prime Video with episodes 1 and 2, both premiering on December 19, 2024. Jimmy Donaldson, better known as MrBeast, has long been discussing his ambitions to bring his content creation skills to a Hollywood-level production, having marketed the show as the biggest game show he has ever produced.
With over 40 Guinness World Records under Beast Games' belt, it appears the YouTube star has succeeded. His fans will find much to love in episodes 1 and 2 of the game show, which harken back to his earlier YouTube videos like the Squid Games challenge from 2021 or the viral Ages 1 - 100 Fight For $500,000 video from earlier this year.
Each episode plays out like MrBeast's YouTube videos, but with a higher budget. For example, even before the first challenge of episode 1, the content creator gave away $1,000,000 to participants willing to go home. By the end, he had given away over $2 million, setting a new World Record in the process.
What's more, MrBeast revealed the prizes for the upcoming episodes, which include a new Lamborghini and a private island.
The release of the first two episodes indicates that he has effectively translated the essence of his YouTube videos into a high-stakes, episodic game show that rivals Hollywood reality TV.
Read on for a breakdown of every challenge in Beast Games episodes 1 and 2.
Challenges and rules for Beast Games episode 1
Beast Games episode 1, titled 1,000 People Fight For $5,000,000 ,is a continuation of the YouTube video, 2,000 People Fight For $5,000,000, posted on December 19, 2024, on MrBeast's channel. The events of the video took place in the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada, and had these challenges:
- Lifting a 10,000 lb rock
- Briefcase Challenge
- Capture a Flag
- Trust Game
The winning 1,000 contestants advanced to play in Beast Games episode 1. MrBeast waived copyright restrictions for it, allowing streamers to freely react and create content about it.
The episode saw more than half of the contestants eliminated through trap doors beneath each of the participants standing in 12 rows.
Before the first challenge, 52 contestants split the $1,000,000 offered by MrBeast to leave the challenge, each walking away with roughly $20,000.
Challenge 1
The first challenge revolved around sacrifice, with each row designated as a team. To progress, a team member had to sacrifice themselves and be willing to leave Beast Games with no reward. The first nine rows to sacrifice a teammate advanced.
Challenge 2
The second challenge involved block building, where each contestant had to stack randomly shaped rocks within 10 minutes to create a tower. The first 100 towers to fall after the timer expired were eliminated.
Challenge 3
The final challenge involved bribes. MrBeast offered participants bribes, starting at $10,000 and going up to $100,000, to exit the game show. However, the entire row of the contestant who accepted a bribe would also be eliminated.
Challenges and rules for Beast Games episode 2
With 493 contestants remaining, Beast Games episode 2, aptly titled 500 People Trapped In My City, began in Beast City, a $15 million creation by MrBeast. This city, featuring dormitories and other facilities, was to be the home for all remaining participants throughout the game show.
Beast Games episode 2 featured five challenges aimed at reducing the number of contestants. The challenges took place in two four-story towers near Beast City, and each contestant was given a token with a riddle and a floor number indicating the challenge. Contestants were free to swap and trade tokens before the challenges began.
Challenge 1
The first challenge, named Hope You Can Catch, took place on the top floor of the towers. Participants holding #4 tokens were divided into two teams. Balls dropped randomly through holes in the ceiling, and the teams had to prevent any balls from hitting the ground.
Challenge 2
The second challenge, called Less is More, confined two teams to sections of their floor with curtains obscuring their line of sight. At the end of a 10-minute countdown, the team with the most sacrifices advanced. Teams had a landline phone to communicate with each other.
Challenge 3
The third challenge, named Throw Down, had contestants from two teams throw balls from the third story of the tower into a gigantic red cup. Each player had a turn, and the team with the most points won.
To make things interesting, MrBeast introduced a second Golden Cup in the middle of the challenge. Scoring through this individual cup netted the player $250,000 but did not count towards their team's points.
Challenge 4
The fourth challenge, aptly named Use Your Brain, divided teams into subgroups of four for a trivia showdown. The team with the most group wins progressed.
Challenge 5
The fifth challenge was one of the tensest yet, with each of the four remaining teams choosing a captain, knowing that MrBeast would attempt to bribe them.
The captains were taken to the top of the towers and positioned before buttons. A large screen behind them counted upwards from $0, with the amount increasing exponentially until an undisclosed cap.
Each captain could press the button to take the money, eliminating their team. Furthermore, the captain would still be able to participate in Beast Games.
