Bernie Sanders meets his first VTuber as Sykkuno dons a cat-boy avatar for Twitch stream
United States Senator Bernie Sanders had his first interaction with a VTuber during a recent interview conducted by Twitch streamer AustinShow alongside fellow streamers Thomas "Sykkuno" and Imane "Pokimane". The discussion took place over a Discord video call, thus allowing Sykkuno to don his VTuber character.
Sykkuno then proceeded to ask Sanders if he had ever heard of a "VTuber" before:
"Have you heard of a VTuber before?"
To this, the Vermont Senator replied:
"Nope"
Sykkuno shows what being a VTuber means to Bernie Sanders
VTubers have taken video content creation platforms like YouTube and Twitch by storm in the past few years. For those unaware, VTubers are content creators who use unique animated avatars that utilize CG instead of the typical webcam setup.
Furthermore, VTubers utilize motion capture to mimic facial movements as they speak in real life. This category of content creators has been making huge strides online, with Ironmouse recently becoming the record holder for the most subscribed Twitch streamer of all time.
After Bernie Sanders stated that he was unaware of what a VTuber is, Sykkuno exclaimed:
"No? I'm the first one! Thank you so much for supporting VTubers! "
Pokimane explained it as follows:
"It's when they have this animated profile..."
Sanders then commented:
"Oh, there you are! Okay. Looking good. Looking very good!"
The interaction has since gone viral on X as well, inviting varied reactions from netizens. While some users found the interaction to be unexpected, others welcomed it as a "funny" instance and praised Sykkuno for the "historic moment".
X user @BonniculaLive stated:
"An unbelievable and truly historic moment from today's Pokimane stream with Senator Bernie Sanders"
On the other hand, @transitracer wrote:

Kai Cenat recently congratulated Ironmouse after she dethroned him for the number one spot on the list of Twitch's most subscribed content creators of all time. However, fans of the Vtuber eventually called out Cenat after he inadvertently compared Ironmouse to AI.
