Chicago Sky vs Minnesota Lynx: Prediction, preview and odds | Sept. 13, 2024

With playoff hopes on the line, coach Teresa Weatherspoon’s Chicago Sky will need to be on top of their game to come away with a win when they take on the Minnesota Lynx on Friday. The Sky (13-23) sit eighth in the WNBA standings and hold the last playoff spot but could drop to ninth if they lose on Friday and the results elsewhere go against them.

This will be the third and final meeting between the two teams. The Lynx won both of the previous two games, a 70-62 victory in July and a 79-74 triumph earlier this month.

Chicago Sky vs. Minnesota Lynx preview

The Sky’s recent run of form has been disappointing, with fans becoming increasingly restless as the team only has three wins and lost nine games since the Olympic break. In their most recent outing, they endured their worst loss of the season, an 89-58 defeat to the Washington Mystics.

With Angel Reese out for the season due to a wrist injury and Diamond DeShields sidelined with ankle issues, Chicago needs to overcome its bad patch to win all the remaining games if it wants to have any chance of qualifying for the playoffs.

In stark contrast, the Lynx are doing relatively well, and they haven't even reached top gear yet. Their 11 wins out of the last 12 games show a growth of consistency. Their only defeat during this impressive run was a 94-76 loss to the Dallas Wings.

The Lynx (27-9) is third and one game ahead of the Connecticut Sun (26-10) in the standings. To secure a more favorable first-round matchup in the playoffs, they need to maintain their position and avoid dropping below second place.

Chicago Sky vs. Minnesota Lynx prediction

The way the Lynx have been playing, and given their superior attacking quality, it would not be surprising if they complete the sweep comfortably. But the Sky have to dig deep and show some pride on the court if they are to stand any chance of playing postseason basketball this time.
