Wilson got off to a quick start and took less than two minutes to get on the board with an easy layup to give her team an early 4-0 lead. She battled her way to the free throw line after some play in the post with 3:43 left in the first quarter.

In the second quarter, Wilson struggled to get involved in the game. The USA center managed just one point off a free throw in the first six minutes of the quarter. She did record a short jump with 3:12 left in the half. Wilson finished with a critical block with 30 seconds left to ensure the USA did not go into the half trailing.

Wilson started to find her footing in the third quarter. She recorded a quick two points from a fast break layup after a pinpoint pass from Kelsey Plum. Wilson converted two free throws with 3:36 left in the quarter to secure another double-double at the competition. She followed that up with another layup and continued to dominate on the boards. 8 points and 3 rebounds and 3 blocked shots from Wilson in the third guided the USA to a slender two-point lead going into the final quarter.

In the fourth, Wilson hit a tough midrange jumper with a hand in her face early on. With the French leading by 2 points midway through the fourth, Wilson took matters into her own hands and drove strong to earn two more free throws, which she converted. A big shot from the free throw line (with a slightly lucky bounce) was vital to hold off any pressure from France.

Led by a strong performance from their superstar, Team USA went on to win the hold on for a memorable 67-66 win. USA continued their 61-game a win streak stretching back to 1992 Olympics and have now won eight straight Olympics gold medals.
