Angel Reese calls for French phenom Gabby Williams to join Chicago Sky
Following an electric finish between Team USA and France in the Women's Olympic Basketball gold medal game, Angel Reese made sure to dabble her hand in trying to recruit France's Gabby Williams to her Chicago Sky squad. Williams was electric in front of the home crowd, finishing with 19 points (40.0% shooting, including 50.0% from three-point range) and seven rebounds.
Williams was originally selected as the fourth overall pick by the Sky franchise in the 2018 draft. She played three seasons for the team and averaged 6.8 points (42.4% shooting, including 24.8% from beyond the arc) and 3.4 rebounds per game.
Adding Williams' veteran presence to a young Chicago Sky team would increase their chances of success, especially when placed alongside Angel Reese, Chennedy Carter and Kamilla Cardoso.
"Okay now that the game is over, would you like to be a part of the Chicago Sky again? @gabbywilliams15, I thought it wouldn't hurt to try lmao," Reese tweeted.
Her 2024 Olympic run was impressive as she showcased how far her game has grown over the years since she last played in the WNBA.
Williams played with the Seattle Storm during her final two seasons in the WNBA. She put up 7.7 ppg (42.1% shooting, including 24.7% from three-point range) and 3.7 rpg.
Angel Reese didn't want her name to be a distraction in the success of the USA Basketball Women's Olympic Team
While the USA did secure their eighth straight Olympic gold medal, ESPN's Michael Voepel was unsure of how the outlook of the team once the 2028 Olympics commences.
Voepel highlighted the possible inclusions of young pieces such as Caitlin Clark, Angel Reese, JuJu Watkins and Paige Bueckers. However, the Sky rookie didn't want to be included in the discussion.
"Let's just congratulate these women and let them enjoy this moment," Reese posted. "Leave me out of this until my time comes!" Reese tweeted.
The fourth-quarter finish by Team USA showcased their incredible composure to seal the game in front of the French crowd. Despite a strong outing from France, which was somewhat successful in hampering the USA's offensive process, it wasn't enough to get the better of the Americans.
There were some concerns with how close the score was in the game's final stretch as France didn't simply back down. It was the kind of performance expected from a country's national basketball team, which was focused on pulling off an upset victory in front of their home crowd.
Team USA entered this year's international competition with questions about Clark and Reese getting snubbed from the roster. However, Reese wanted this moment to be solely focused on praising the team's victory over discussing other hyperbolic narratives.
