Angel Reese clarifies her attempt to recruit Gabby Williams to Chicago Sky

Angel Reese has come clean about her attempt to recruit former Chicago Sky player Gabby Williams back to the team. The No. 7 pick in the 2024 WNBA draft sent a recruiting message to Williams on Sunday on X (formerly Twitter), asking Williams if she'd like to rejoin the Sky.

Talking with Chicago Tribune's Julia Poe on Tuesday, Reese clarified her message, saying that she was just having fun with Williams, adding that she's always admired the American-French player.

"I don't have any expectations," Reese said. "I don't know anything. It's just fun. I've been a fan of Gabby since she was at UConn, and I've always tried to take some things from her game. She plays hard, and I love that about her. It was tough to see her losing, obviously to see her play, but I just love Gabby and it was just a joke 'cause she did play here in Chicago.

"I watched her when she was here in Chicago for a little while, so I'm excited to see where her career goes. Any WNBA team that gets her is lucky for sure."

Gabby Williams was one of the best non-WNBA players in the Olympic basketball tournament alongside Emma Meesseman of Belgium and Marine Johannes. She has WNBA experience, but her five-year tenure in the league didn't end the best way.

Angel Reese tried to recruit Gabby Williams as soon as the Olympic basketball women's gold medal game finished, asking her if she wanted to join the Sky.

"ok now that the game is over, would you like to be apart of the chicago sky again??? @gabbywilliams15 😭🤔 (thought it wouldn’t hurt to try lmaoo)," the rookie tweeted.

Williams offered a different option, telling Angel Reese that they could play for a different organization.

"orrrrrr we could just play together for a différent organization 👀🤷🏽‍♀️😂," Williams replied.

Moreover, she added that her Chicago tenure didn't end well.

"they did me dirty girl 😫 but i am still you’re biggest fan," Williams wrote.

Williams played for the Chicago Sky from 2018 through 2021. After failing to comply with the WNBA’s prioritization clause, then-Chicago coach James Wade said that Williams didn't make the team a priority. She was traded to the Seattle Storm in 2022, playing 46 games with the four-time WNBA champion.
