Angel Reese gives Shaquille O'Neal straightforward answer to his question on Caitlin Clark's massive fandom
Angel Reese gave a short and direct explanation for why people like Caitlin Clark so much. The Chicago Sky forward sat down with NBA legend Shaquille O'Neal for this week's episode of her "Unapologetically Angel" show to discuss a series of topics, including the Indiana Fever rookie's impact.
While discussing what changes need to be made so women can dunk the basketball more often, Reese said that regardless of that change, women wouldn't get the respect they deserve from men.
When O'Neal tried to make his case and explained that people get excited by what they don't see often, he asked Reese why she thinks people like Clark.
"She can shoot 3s from logo," Reese said before Shaq likened the Indiana Fever to Steph Curry in the NBA. (00:07:59)
"We've never seen that before. That's my point," O'Neal said. "You know why I love Steph Curry? 'Cause I've never seen that before. I've seen it a little bit in Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf, but I've never seen a guy consistently come down."
Clark has become a big deal in the WNBA, drawing attention from fans wherever she goes. The No. 1 overall pick has shown her range since college and even though it took a while for her to get the hang of the W, she displayed her scoring abilities once she settled in. Besides being a terrific playmaker, she's a great shooter and fans are often entertained by that aspect of her game.
Reese and Shaquille O'Neal know what's special about Clark and appealing to a lot of fans.
Shaquille O'Neal described his relationship with Angel Reese, recalled advising the Sky star
O'Neal recalled he advised Reese when she was out of LSU games in her final college season. The LA Lakers legend discussed his relationship with Reese and how he talked to her during her four-game absence.
"Me and her are really good friends," Shaq said. "She reminds me of my daughter, so I mentor her at times. Like the time she was having a problem with Kim, I called her and I said 'Hey, part of the game, don't say nothing, don't respond. Just take your punishment like a soldier and then come back.'"
Shaq has mentored Reese and always supported her. Reese too sees Shaq as a father figure.
