Angel Reese's coach Tyler Marsh lays bare what led him to make Courtney Paris his first hire

Chicago Sky head coach Tyler Marsh made his first major decision on Wednesday by hiring Courtney Paris as an assistant. Marsh was hired as the team's head coach in November, following the dismissal of Teresa Weatherspoon in October.

On X (formerly Twitter), Marsh shared why he chose Paris as part of his coaching staff, emphasizing the former Dallas Wings assistant's contributions on and off the court.

"Every time we played Dallas, I always found myself watching Courtney’s pregame work with their post players & loved what she was doing. She brings so much value on & off the floor. First hire & couldn’t be happier to have Court on board & believing in the vision!" Marsh posted on X.

Courtney Paris has been an assistant coach since the 2020 season. After retiring in 2019, the former player began her coaching career with the Oklahoma Sooners women’s basketball team. Her second coaching gig was with the Wings.

After the announcement, Paris expressed excitement about joining the Sky coaching staff.

“I am deeply honored and grateful to Jeff and Tyler for the opportunity to join the Chicago Sky organization,” Courtney Paris said. “Through this process, I’ve had the chance to get to know Tyler, and I am truly inspired by his vision and leadership. I’m eager to support him and the entire coaching staff as we work together to elevate this team."

Former Wings HC shares message for Courtney Paris

Latricia Trammell, the former Dallas Wings head coach and colleague of Courtney Paris, shared a heartfelt message on her Instagram. Trammell's post was a tribute to Paris as she steps into her new role as an assistant under Marsh in Chicago.

"A heartfelt congratulations to my loyal and hardworking former assistant coach, Courtney, on taking the next step in her coaching journey with the Chicago Sky!" Trammell posted. "Her dedication, knowledge and passion for the game have been invaluable to me and my journey, and I have no doubt she’ll bring that same energy and excellence to Chicago."
"Courtney, I appreciate your friendship—you will always be a part of the family. Much love to you!"

Trammell coached the Wings for two seasons, in 2023 and 2024. After leading the team to a 9-31 record and missing the playoffs, she was fired at the end of the 2024 season.
