"Ben Simmons of WNBA" - Fans react to Angel Reese adding 3-pt range to her game ahead of next season
After a remarkable rookie season, Angel Reese is back in the lab to expand her game and become a more dangerous weapon on offense. The Chicago Sky forward's offensive game has been considered one of her weak points and she's putting in work to change that.
A video shared on X (formerly Twitter) by a fan account, "Angel And Kamilla," on Saturday showed the 2024 WNBA Rookie of the Year runner-up working on her catch-and-shoot 3-pointer.
This video drew a lot of attention from fans, with some going for jokes and trying to troll Reese, even comparing her to Brooklyn Nets star Ben Simmons. He often posts offseason workout videos on social media.
"Ben Simmons of WNBA 😭," one fan wrote.
Others made fun of Reese's shooting mechanism.
"SO slow from catch to shot 😂😂😂 gotta keep working ig but it looks so unnatural," one fan said.
"Most blocked player in the WNBA shooting from the chest," another fan said.
"Is this video slowed down? 🤣" another fan jokingly asked.
A few fans were more optimistic about this, predicting that Angel Reese would be better in her second season.
Reese faced criticism from fans during the 2024 season, especially when she missed shots under the basket and grabbed her rebounds. While she firmly rejected the ensuing narrative, the former LSU star acknowledged that improving her offense is key to becoming a dual-threat in the league.
If she can score consistently from more than one spot, the Sky could have their version of A'ja Wilson. Then again, Reese is still young, and her offense needs to be improved.
Angel Reese sent a clear message about her offensive game
In March, when many people insisted that Angel Reese was grabbing her rebounds, the player denied those claims, saying it's statistically wrong. She clarified that she knew her limitations before entering the WNBA but is focused on improving while she keeps doing what she excels at.
"Defense and rebounding wins championships," Reese said. "And I've won championships at every level by just doing that.
"So, coming into the league, before I sharpen up on my offense, just being able to come here and have that on my shoulders, it's something I could always do. It's something that I always knew would translate."
The Sky are set to begin a new era with Tyler Marsh replacing Teresa Weatherspoon as head coach, and many want to see how Reese will benefit from that move.
