Chennedy Carter breaks silence on relationship with Chicago Sky franchise after becoming unrestricted free agent

Chennedy Carter officially became an unrestricted free agent when the Chicago Sky opted not to extend a qualifying offer to her by the Jan. 20 deadline. Carter is now free to negotiate with other teams interested in securing her services.

On the night of the deadline for qualifying offers, Carter went on X Spaces to talk about her time with the Sky:

"I came to a new organization (Chicago) I was embraced. I was loved," Carter said. "I came from playing eight minutes (in Los Angeles) to taking a lot of people's spots...doing a lot of things for the organization that I really respect and love." (Timestamp: 6:35)

Aware of speculations about her dynamic with the Sky organization, Carter set the record straight.

"The narratives of me not being happy and this and that, (they) can't possibly be true," Carter said. "Everything in Chicago typically went right for me. There was nothing that I could say, 'Oh, I didn't like the way they did this' ... Everything was really cool.' (Timestamp: 6:53)

The 25-year-old guard, playing for the Wuhan Shengfan Cranes in the Women’s Chinese Basketball Association (WCBA), went on to call her time in Chicago "one of the best seasons" she played in the WNBA.

Her averages of 17.5 points, 3.5 rebounds and 1.1 steals with Chicago in 2024 are all career highs. Carter’s field goal percentage of 48.7% (from nearly 15 shot attempts per game) is also her best shooting clip thus far.

In the same Spaces, Carter hinted that she already knew the next destination of her WNBA journey.

While the announcement of Chennedy Carter's next WNBA team is something to look forward to, Carter appears to be having a blast in the present.

Last week, Carter received the 2024 Outstanding Contribution Award.

As shown in the clip posted by the X account Chinese Women's Hoop Show, Chennedy Carter also received 20,000 yuan (about $2,750) alongside a trophy.
