Colin Cowherd drops bars in Caitlin Clark monologue, taking aim at WNBA players and community for Olympics snub
Colin Cowherd has been very supportive of Caitlin Clark, pointing out the mistakes the WNBA and USA Basketball have made regarding the young guard. Following her record-breaking performance against the Dallas Wings, Cowherd criticized USA Basketball for snubbing Clark from the Olympic team this year.
The FS1 analyst noted that Clark improved her game a lot since the roster was released. He called her one of the best players in the league at two specific items, saying it was silly not to pick her for this squad.
"Part of the silliness of not allowing her on the Olympic team is she was a very quickly improving player, and now, you kinda look silly. She's arguably the best playmaker in the league, arguably the second-best 3-point shooter in the league. I don't know, they seem valuable Olympic competition and she's not on the team," Cowherd said.
Cowherd added that Clark has made a huge impact on the league, both on and off the court, criticizing the way she's been treated after causing big changes for the rest of the players.
"It cracks me up how they treat her. If you really think about it, they're trying to get her to pay her dues, but she's the one paying all the fees. She's the reason you're flying private. She's paying for everything. And you want her to pay her dues. It's really ridiculous," he added.
Colin Cowherd compared Caitlin Clark to Taylor Swift
This isn't the first time Colin Cowherd has lobbied for Caitlin Clark. The veteran analyst noted that Diana Taurasi's health issues could open the door for Clark to make it to Team USA's Olympic lineup and even compared Clark's effect to Taylor Swift's impact.
"Women's basketball just didn't quite know how to handle Caitlin Clark," he said. "It reminds me a little bit of when Taylor Swift became a billionaire with the Eras Tour and the management team, Ticket Master had to apologize. In 10 minutes, they couldn't supply enough tickets. They were completely overwhelmed. And I think that's what women's basketball was with Caitlin Clark."
"Go look at the men's team, it's political. Jaylen Brown is not on it 'cause Nike doesn't want him on it. Kyrie Irving is not on it 'cause Nike doesn't want him on it. You're not gonna put Caitlin Clark, your Taylor Swift, on the team?
Clark keeps shattering records with her performances, and at times, even with her presence alone. The young guard has taken the WNBA to new heights, including arena attendance, and she's just in her rookie season.
