"Deada** this was us" - Breanna Stewart quips at LeBron James' viral Olympic image depicting him as George Washington
Breanna Stewart agreed with a viral image of the USA delegation being led by LeBron James during the 2024 Paris Olympics opening ceremony. The LA Lakers superstar was selected as the flag bearer for this edition of the Olympics alongside tennis star Coco Gauff.
It was LeBron who stole the spotlight with an image that is making the rounds on social media. It was raining during the opening ceremony, making things harder for many athletes.
James didn't back down from his responsibility and led his nation through the Seine River, although it was difficult. They all took some iconic pictures that will be remembered for the rest of their lives.
An edit shared by House of Highlights on Instagram compared LeBron James' photo to the painting of George Washington crossing the Delaware River. Breanna Stewart saw this image and shared it on her Instagram story, saying that they felt exactly that way during their trip through the river.
"Dead** this was us," Stewart captioned the post, alongside a laughing emoji.
The paintings were created in 1851 to commemorate George Washington's crossing the Delaware River in December 1776. Accompanied by the Continental Army, Washington started a surprise attack and victory at the Battle of Trenton in New Jersey, defeating the Hessian forces in the American Revolutionary War.
Breanna Stewart had a blast during Olympics Opening Day
After witnessing LeBron James leading the troops as Washington did, Breanna Stewart had more time to enjoy and take pictures. The New York Liberty superstar was on a notable run, first taking a picture with two remarkable 3-point shooters, Sabrina Ionescu and Steph Curry.
"A lot of 🪣s," which stands for a lot of buckets.
She also shared a picture of the entire USA Basketball women's team with LeBron James and the Eiffel Tower in the background.
Stewart and company will start their Olympic journey on Monday against Japan. They are considered clear-cut favorites to take the gold medal in two weeks, although every opposing team keeps getting better.
Even so, Team USA looks as strong as ever, and they won't let that record-breaking eighth consecutive gold medal go away just like that.
