"Don't mess with Rickea" - WNBA fans react as Brittney Griner and Rickea Jackson both get ejected after physical altercation
WNBA fans weighed in on the on-court altercation between Brittney Griner and Rickea Jackson. The duo was ejected late in the second quarter of the Phoenix Mercury and LA Sparks at the Crypto.com Arena. Both players were assessed two technical fouls, resulting in an automatic ejection.
With less than 20 minutes to go before halftime, Mercury's Celeste Taylor was at the charity stripe. She missed the first and made the second. As she went up for the attempt, Jackson and Li Yueru were attempting to box out veteran Griner, who swung her arm up and appeared to get into the Sparks rookie's face.
This had reactions pouring in from the fans. One of them sided with Jackson.
"Period, don't mess with Rickea"
More fans shared their two cents on the melee. @xolilfifty said:

Rickea Jackson was not too happy with Brittney Griner getting physical, making her anger known as the two squared up. As the Mercury star walked toward her, she pushed her arm away and was immediately met with a response that caught air. Coaches and teammates quickly broke up their exchange. But the referees had made their decision and called it accordingly.
What next for Rickea Jackson and Brittney Griner?
The ejection marked the first one in her career for Jackson. The No. 4 overall pick of this year's draft class entered Tuesday's matchup averaging 13.4 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 1.5 assists. Per CBS Sports, she is third among the rookies this season in scoring, fourth in FG%, and sixth in rebounding. At the time of writing, it is unclear whether she and Brittney Griner will be fined for their altercation.
The Phoenix big came into the game with four technicals, so she has not yet reached the automatic suspension total of seven fouls. However, the WNBA determined that the fight with Jackson needed greater punishment. She was previously suspended three games for a near-fight in 2019. What transpired with LA Sparks rookie shouldn’t rise to that level, but that league will have the final say on the matter.
