Fever coach Christie Sides in awe of Caitlin Clark-Kelsey Mitchell dynamic duo: "There's just ice in their veins"
Indiana Fever's dynamic duo of Caitlin Clark and Kelsey Mitchell produced yet another stupendous performance in a 110-109 home victory over the Dallas Wings on Sunday. Clark and Mitchell combined for 65 points as Indiana registered its 20th win of the season and solidified 6th position on the standings.
Coach Christie Sides was in awe of the Clark-Mitchell duo, which has been in scintillating form since the season resumed after the Olympic break.
After witnessing her dynamic duo's latest masterclass, the Fever coach emphasized that both players have the confidence to take and make clutch shots. She also praised the role players for helping put Clark and Mitchell in positions to succeed.
"They are special. I mean those two right there can hit such big shots," Sides told reporters after the game.
"There's just ice in their veins and they have got players around them who are helping them get open. You know, setting good screens and then moving the defense as well," she added.
Clark scored a career-high 35 points on 10-of-22 shooting from the field, including 6-of-14 from the free throw line. Mitchell also recorded a 30-point game while shooting 12-of-21 from the floor, including 6-of-12 from beyond the arc.
Coach Sides highlighted Clark and Mitchell's ability to score in multiple ways, be it by breaking down the defense and scoring a layup or pulling up for a shot from way beyond the arc.
"I mean, Kelsey is, you know, with her ability to get downhill, you have to guard her a certain way. Then she can just pull up on a dime. Caitlin is able to, you know get her shot off so quick and also get downhill and get to the rim. Those guys just make big shots. I mean, they are just two, you know, the dynamic duo. I mean, that's who they are," the Fever coach opined.
LeBron James acknowledges Clark and Mitchell's heroics
Four-time NBA champion LeBron James gave a shout-out to Caitlin Clark and Kelsey Mitchell after the Fever duo exploded with a huge offensive game. The LA Lakers superstar took to Instagram and dropped a two-word reaction, calling Clark and Mitchell a "Dynamic Duo."
Clark and Mitchell made history as the first duo in the WNBA to record at least 30 points and five three-pointers in a single game. Both players have surpassed 750 points this season.
The two Fever stars will have another opportunity to add to their totals in the team's final regular season game on Thursday against the Washington Mystics.
