Fever star Aliyah Boston drops one-word reaction after Coco Gauff bags WTA Finals win
Indiana Fever star Aliyah Boston dropped a one-word reaction following Coco Gauff's WTA Finals win on Saturday. Gauff came from behind to beat China's Qinwen Zheng in a thrilling three-set match at King Saud University Indoor Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
In a post on her Instagram stories, Boston shared an image of Gauff with the WTA trophy as confetti rained down on the new champion. It was Gauff's first triumph in the competition, and she became the first American winner since Serena Williams won three in a row from 2012 to 2014.
"Insane," Boston wrote.
Aliyah Boston had some time on her hands since it's the WNBA offseason and she's not playing overseas. The incoming third-year pro opted to watch Coco Gauff beat Qinwen Zheng in the WTA Finals. Gauff, who lost the first set 3-6, fought back to win the next two (6-4, 7-6), securing the $15 million grand prize.
Aliyah Boston to play in Unrivaled this offseason
Following her teammate Lexie Hull being announced as the 29th player for Unrivaled, Aliyah Boston surprised many by becoming the 30th player named part of the new 3-on-3 basketball league. It was co-founded by Breanna Stewart of the New York Liberty and Napheesa Collier of the Minnesota Lynx.
Boston brings in her resume of being a two-time All-Star, former Rookie of the Year and an NCAA champion with the South Carolina Gamecocks. Six more players are expected to join the league, with her Fever teammate Caitlin Clark rumored to be a target.
"We're always going to have a roster spot for Caitlin Clark," Alex Bazzell, the league's president told Sportico. "We're not applying a full court press the way people think. We are letting her decompress from basketball. … She knows that we have a spot for her when she's ready."
Aliyah Boston already showing improvement with offseason workout
The Indiana Fever made some changes this offseason by introducing a new team president, general manager and head coach. Christie Sides was replaced by Stephanie White, who has a history with the franchise as a player, assistant and coach. White was in charge of Indiana from 2015 to 2016 before leaving to coach at Vanderbilt.
White's goal includes making Caitlin Clark and Aliyah Boston the next John Stockton and Karl Malone. Clark and Boston are already considered one of the best duos in the WNBA, but there's some room for improvement. Boston is already doing her part based on a recent workout video, which can be seen below.
If she can maintain that shooting consistency, it will be a big boost for her, Clark and the entire Fever team next season.
