"Go get that gold": A'ja Wilson cheers for USAWNT as leg sleeve trend hits soccer
A'ja Wilson is on course to take the USA Basketball women's team to a record-breaking gold medal in the 2024 Paris Olympics basketball tournament. The USA women's national soccer team will also be on the verge of winning a gold medal when they face Brazil in the final on Saturday.
While Wilson has to focus on her upcoming final, she is also cheering for the USWNT. It seems certain members of the soccer team have taken some style lessons from the WNBA star.
The USWNT's official X account shared a picture of midfielder Rose Lavelle and forward Lynn Williams wearing a leg sleeve, a trend that Wilson put on the map. On seeing this, the Las Vegas Aces superstar didn't hesitate to endorse them and sent a strong message ahead of their game against Brazil.
"tbh we just really love @_ajawilson22 💙 Congrats @usabasketball on heading to the Gold Medal Game! 🏀🇺🇸," the USWNT's post read.
"Tbh — love y’all too!! Go get tha Gold!! 🤍🤍," Wilson quote-tweeted the picture.
Something that these teams have in common is that they are expected to and usually do dominate in their respective disciplines.
The USWNT aimed at becoming the first team in the FIFA Women's World Cup history to win three consecutive titles before Sweden stopped them last year.
They bounced back this year and are now 90 minutes away from reaching Olympic glory again.
As for the USA Basketball women's team, it hasn't faced serious competition on the way to seven consecutive Olympic gold medals.
They're keen to add another one and after a dominant win over Australia, the goal is within reach. A'ja Wilson didn't have the best game against the old rival, but Breanna Stewart and Jackie Young showed up with 16 and 14 points, respectively.
A'ja Wilson has surpassed NBA superstars Nikola Jokic, Giannis Antetokounmpo with remarkable Paris Olympic record
Despite being a shell of herself against Australia, only scoring 10 points, A'ja Wilson remains one of the biggest names in the Olympic basketball tournament. Before the semifinal matchup, the Aces superstar center put on a show against Nigeria, achieving terrific accomplishments.
Along with her game-highs 20 points and 11 rebounds, Wilson shot 81.8% from the field to lead Team USA to the 88-74 victory. This performance marked the third time Wilson recorded at least 20 points and 10 rebounds in the 2024 Olympic tournament.
StatMamba highlighted that no other player, man or woman, has achieved this milestone.
Nikola Jokic had done it twice before facing off against Team USA on Thursday, but he finished three points short of his third double-double after grabbing 11 rebounds.
