"Haven't won anything yet": Sabrina Ionescu echoes Kobe Bryant's iconic 'Job's not finished' sentiment after Liberty prop up 2-0 lead

Sabrina Ionescu echoed LA Lakers legend Kobe Bryant's iconic 'Job's not finished' line after the New York Liberty edged the Las Vegas Aces 88-84 in Game 2 of the 2024 WNBA playoffs at the Barclays Center on Tuesday (Oct. 1). Speaking to the media, Ionescu, who ended with 24 points, stressed the need to not take it easy.

The guard, who used to train with the 5x NBA champion, said it was a good feeling to have a dominant lead, but was determined to close it out.

“Being up 2-0 is great but we haven’t won anything yet.”

Ionescu also recorded nine rebounds and five assists to lead NY to a close win. Ably assisting her were Breanna Stewart (15 points, seven rebounds, and eight assists) and Jonquel Jones (14 points, eight rebounds, and four assists). Courtney Vandersloot had 12 points off the bench.

The win sees Sabrina Ionescu and the Liberty get the edge over the Aces and extend their win record to 5-0 this season. They will now head to Michelob Ultra Arena on Thursday as the action moves to Las Vegas.

Sabrina Ionescu joins Diana Taurasi with landmark achievement during Game 2 win vs Aces

Per ESPN Stats & Info, Sabrina Ionescu became the second player in the league's playoff history to stack up 20 points and five assists while shooting 50% from the field in three consecutive games. She joined Phoenix Mercury star Diana Taurasi, who achieved the feat in 2009.

Ionescu ended the regular season averaging 18.2 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 6.2 assists per game. She was a 20-point metronome in her last game as well, dropping 21 points, four rebounds and five assists.

She had earlier added how her offseason work to get past opponent defenses helped her to maximize her scoring.

"I have my 3-point shot but to continue to help the team to be able to just manipulate defenses and get into the paint which allows the extra pass, defenses to collapse. My ability to go up, get fouled and understanding that sometimes the three point shots [are] not going to go in and sometimes defenses are going to guard it really well."

The Liberty will look to close out the series against the Aces in Game 3. They have already used the advantage of size and their shooting to trouble the 2x defending champions. Only time will tell if Sabrina Ionescu punches another finals ticket on Friday.
