Breanna Stewart and Xargay were former teammates while playing in the Russian professional league. They got engaged and married in 2021. The couple has two children together: daughter Ruby Mae, who was born in 2021 through surrogacy, and son Theo Josep, whom they welcomed last October.
"Stewie" has high regard for her wife, who she credits for the success she is having with the Liberty, taking care of their household so she can focus on her WNBA campaign. She helped New York win the 2024 league title, defeating the Minnesota Lynx in five tightly-fought matchups in the finals.
Breanna Stewart gears up for inaugural season of Unrivaled basketball league
Apart from spending quality time with her family during the WNBA offseason, Breanna Stewart is gearing up for the much-awaited inaugural season of Unrivaled, the 3-on-3 league she co-founded with fellow WNBA star Napheesa Collier.
Set to tip off in January in Miami, Florida, the league is viewed by many as a potential game-changer in how women's basketball is handled and presented.
Breanna Stewart spoke about their vision for Unrivaled, sharing in a statement:
"For years, women have relied heavily on off-court sponsorhips for a majority of their income. With Unrivaled, we're revolutionizing the game by prioritizing investments in our stars and ensuring their on-court performance is reflected in their pay."
Apart from being the co-founders, Stewart and Collier will also see action in Unrivaled, part of Mist Basketball Club and Lunar Owls, respectively. The league also includes four other teams, namely, Laces Basketball Club, Phantom Basketball Club, Rose Basketball Club and Vinyl Basketball Club.
The competing teams will feature six WNBA players each and battle from Jan. 17 to March 10 for the regular season. The competition moves to the playoff phase on March 16, with the semifinals and the finals set for March 17. Unrivaled games will be aired live over TNT Sports.
Other WNBA players set to see action in the inaugural season of the Unrivaled Basketball League are Kayla McBride (Minnesota Lynx), Alyssa Thomas (Connecticut Sun), Kate Martin (Golden State Valkyries), Jewell Loyd (Seattle Storm), Allisha Gray (Atlanta Dream), Jackie Young (Las Vegas Aces), Satou Sabally (Dallas Wings), Angel Reese (Chicago Sky) and Aliyah Boston (Indiana Fever).
