Indiana Fever GM makes commitment as Caitlin Clark’s jersey #22 officially retires at Iowa
Caitlin Clark's No. 22 Iowa jersey will be retired by the university in February, and the general manager of her WNBA team Indiana Fever has vowed to be present when it happens.
Amber Cox, named the Fever's new COO and GM in October, took to X (formerly Twitter) to share her excitement over the incredible honor to be given to Clark by her alma mater as she committed to be at Carver-Hawkeye Arena to give support and celebrate with their superstar player.
She wrote on her post accompanying a video teaser of Clark's jersey retirement on Feb. 2. 2025:
"Love this! Looking forward to being in the building for this!"
The University of Iowa made the announcement of Caitlin Clark's jersey retirement on Wednesday. It will coincide with the Hawkeyes' game against the University of Southern California.
Clark is being honored for her stellar four-year run she had in Iowa, where she helped elevate the school to national prominence with her scoring prowess, particularly her long bombs from deep. It culminated with back-to-back trips to the NCAA championship game.
Her legendary collegiate career led her to being selected first overall in the 2024 WNBA Draft by the Fever, where she made an instant impact by helping the team make the playoffs after eight years. For her effort, she was named the Rookie of the Year and an All-Star in her first year and finished fourth in MVP voting.
Caitlin Clark honored to have her jersey retired by Iowa
The Indiana Fever's do-it-all guard Caitlin Clark is proud and honored to have her jersey retired by the University of Iowa, where she starred from 2020-2024. She's looking forward to returning to her former stomping ground and celebrating it with the people she was with in her collegiate basketball journey.
The jersey retirement ceremony is set for Feb. 2, 2025 at the Hawkeyes' home arena, coinciding with the game against USC. Clark will be the third player whose jersey is retired by Iowa's women's basketball team, joining Megan Gustafson (No. 10) and Michelle Edwards (No. 30).
Caitlin Clark shared her thoughts on the honor given to her:
"I'm forever proud to be a Hawkeye, and Iowa holds a special place in my heart that is bigger than just basketball. It means the world to me to receive this honor and to celebrate it with my family, friends and alumni. It will be a great feeling to look up in the rafters and see my jersey alongside those that I've admired for so long."
Clark finished her collegiate career at Iowa as the NCAA Division 1's all-time leading scorer, both men and women, channeling a lot of focus on the women's game with her style of play and performances.
