Is Chennedy Carter playing tonight against Connecticut Sun? Closer look at Sky guard's status (Sept. 19)

Chennedy Carter will be subject to a late fitness test before the Chicago Sky’s final WNBA regular showdown of the season against the Connecticut Sun on Thursday. Carter has struggled with injury since she arrived in the Windy City, forcing her to miss quite a few crucial games. This has seemingly seeped into such a key time of the season with the guard listed questionable.

Chennedy didn’t play in the Sky’s recent defeat to the Atlanta Dream, and it has emerged that the reason for the absence was that the 25-year-old was dealing with foot pain.

Her foot injury was evident before the Dream matchup. She was reportedly seen receiving treatment on the sidelines during the game against the Phoenix Mercury, even though she played a significant number of minutes and scored 20 points.

Carter has been the orchestrator of many of Chicago’s wins this season, alongside Angel Reese and Kamilla Cardoso. The Sky medical staff will be closely monitoring to see if her condition for the final game improves.

She's also the team’s leading scorer, followed by Angel Reese (ruled out for the season), who leads in rebounds. Next in line is Cardoso, who is listed as doubtful. There is much more at stake for the team.

It’s a do-or-die situation for Chicago, as a mere slip in tonight's matchup will cost the team more than just a playoff spot, especially if you take its performance before and after the Olympic break. The Sky have gained just three wins in their last 15 games, and all those came against bottom-placed teams.

Chennedy Carter gives update on her foot injury

After watching the game from the sidelines on Tuesday, Chennedy Carter was understandably disappointed as she gave the latest update on her foot injury. The Sky guard took to Threads and posted:

“I hurt my foot in the last game. It honestly happened the very first possession I touched the ball. I obviously continued to play with the pain but guys I am not sure what it is.”

She further declared that the most important thing was that she’s getting “better day by day.”

With an already depleted roster, there are real fears about how the Sky will fare at Mohegan Sun Arena tonight. Carter will no doubt be key if the Sky are to take any positive results out of their encounter with the Sun. If she’s unable to play, expect Brianna Turner to see an increased role with Rachel Banham and Kaela Davis getting additional minutes.
