Kelsey Mitchell offers crucial update on her "left side" injury ahead of WNBA playoffs: "We have to be precautionary"

Indiana Fever players, support staff, and fans were concerned when veteran guard Kelsey Mitchell exited Thursday's game against the Washington Mystics. Mitchell played just 4:36 minutes, scoring four points, before heading to the locker room in the first quarter during the Fever's 92-91 road loss.

After the game, the 28-year-old provided an important update on her condition, revealing discomfort on her "left side."

"I think it was just more like throughout the course of my left side," Mitchell told IndyStar after the game.
"But I don't think anything major. I just think we have to be precautionary. Nothing major," she added.

In the first quarter, the two-time WNBA All-Star collided with a Washington player under the basket and appeared to be in discomfort. She initially tried to shake off the issue with her left ankle but ultimately headed to the locker room for medical attention.

Mitchell returned to the bench in the second quarter, wearing a knee brace, which she later removed while joining her teammates at half-court. Despite the injury scare, the veteran guard seemed in good spirits.

However, even though she returned to the bench, the 28-year-old did not re-enter the game.

"I was being precautionary, staying in the right mindset about the focus of the group, and what's needed," the Fever star continued.
"That was decisions made by our personnel, and it was cool to support my team," she added.

Christie Sides on Kelsey Mitchell

Indiana Fever coach Christie Sides provided an update on Kelsey Mitchell's in-game injury following the team's loss. According to Fever beat reporter Chloe Peterson, Sides reassured fans by stating, "Kelsey is good" and explained the decision to keep Mitchell on the bench.

Indiana assistant coach Jhared Simpson also provided a reassuring update on Mitchell's injury during the game.

"Oh, she's fine. She's a warrior. She's on the bench," Simpson told the broadcasters.

The Fever will square off against the Connecticut Sun in the first round of playoffs. Game 1 of the best-of-three games series will be on September 22 (Sunday) at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut.

Hoops fans, especially Indiana Fever supporters, are hopeful that Mitchell won’t be sidelined by her latest injury. Without the veteran guard, Indiana's chances of defeating Connecticut would be significantly reduced.
