“Leave me out of this”: Angel Reese calls out American media, says they should celebrate gold medal winners
Team USA Women's Basketball Team won the gold medal at the Paris Olympics and Angel Reese wants the media to celebrate them instead of talking about her. It was a very close victory for the team, as they took the game by just one point, but they do have their eighth consecutive gold medal.
After the win, sections of sports media started the conversation about the future of the USA's Olympic team, keeping in mind the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. In a post on X, ESPN Women's Hoops mentioned Angel Reese among other names, asking who will suit up for the next Olympics.
Replying to the post, Reese said that people should celebrate the current Olympic gold medal team and also leave her name out of it.
"Let’s just congratulate these women & let them enjoy this moment! Leave me out of this until my time comes! 😇” Reese wrote.
Since the Olympic team was put together, the absence of Angel Reese and Caitlin Clark from the roster became the biggest discussion point in WNBA media. Some of the basketball analysts opined that including Clark would have been great for branding the WNBA on the global stage.
So far, Reese has been very impressive in her rookie season. She is just 22 years old and will have plenty of chances to represent the USA at the Olympics.
Draymond Green thinks Angel Reese and Cailtin Clark should have been on Team USA
Draymond Green believes that Angel Reese and Cailtin Clark should have been picked to represent USA at the Paris Olympics. While Green recognized that Clark possesses the talent to play for Team USA, he said that including Clark and Reese would have been great for branding.
Green said that Clark and Reese would have helped in branding of WNBA just as the 1992 Olympic Dream Team had done with the NBA.
"If you think about what the 1992 Barcelona team, 'Dream Team', did for the brand of basketball. The [WNBA] is still in those phases of the NBA," Green told Baron Davis on The Draymond Green Show.
Green also alluded to the historical feat that both Reese and Clark have achieved in this WNBA season so far to reinforce his point.
“For her not to be on the team, Angel Reese not to be [on the team], I think what they are doing for women’s basketball, that should matter... Angel Reese is leading the league in double-doubles and broke the all-time record. Caitlin Clark is leading the league in assists on a historical pace.”
So far in her rookie season, the Sky star is averaging 13.5 points while shooting 40.2% from the field. She is also averaging 12 rebounds and 1.5 steals per game.
