Liberty MVP candidate Sabrina Ionescu shares quirky superstitions with Seth Meyers

Sabrina Ionescu and the New York Liberty are sitting pretty in the WNBA standings with a 25-4 record and the top seed in the WNBA with just 11 games left in the regular season.

While some may say it has more to do with talent than luck or fortune, Liberty guard Sabrina Ionescu isn't leaving anything to chance. The MVP candidate appeared on "Late Night with Seth Meyers," revealing that she is quite superstitious.

On the show, Seth Meyers asked Sabrina Ionescu about her pre-game rituals.

"I'm just very supersitious." Ionescu said. "So it's like, we got to sit in the same place on the bus. The layup lines have to be the same. Like, everything has to be in rhythm and part of the plan. If we lose, we change it up just a little bit."

Ionescu continued describing her superstitions:

"I've tried to kind of let go of some of them because sometimes they keep me up at night like, 'Oh gosh, I didn't eat this food right before,' or, you know, 'the pasta was off.'"

Whatever it is, the plan seems to be working for the New York Liberty, who will look to carry their momentum into the WNBA playoffs.

Sabrina Ionescu, New York Liberty eyeing first WNBA championship

Sabrina Ionescu and the Liberty will hope for their superstitions to help them on the path to a WNBA championship.

In their 28-year history, the Liberty have made five trips to the WNBA finals, including last season's 3-1 series loss versus the Las Vegas Aces. But they still haven't won a WNBA championship, giving hope to the belief that this could be the year for New York with stellar play to this point of the season.

The Liberty are the betting favorites to win the championship with +135 odds. New York has been led by MVP-caliber play from Breanna Stewart and Sabrina Ionescu, along with strong play from Jonquel Jones, as the three each rank in the top 10 in the WNBA in win shares, the only trio in the league to do so.

Sabrina Ionescu4.38th

In 27 games this season, Ionescu is leading the Liberty in scoring, averaging 19.9 points, 4.4 rebounds and 6.0 assists, shooting 43 percent from behind the arc.

The Liberty have looked nearly unstoppable to this point of the season and will look to carry this momentum into the playoffs as this looks to be the year they end the championship drought.
