LSU's Flau'jae Johnson shares eagerness to watch Caitlin Clark & Angel Reese’s teams' transition under new coaches
LSU star Flau'jae Johnson reacted to Caitlin Clark's Indiana Fever and Angel Reese's Chicago Sky signing new coaches ahead of the 2025 WNBA season. Christie Sides was dismissed after two seasons with the Fever, while Teresa Weatherspoon only lasted one campaign at Wintrust Arena.
On Thursday's edition of the "Best of Both Worlds with Flau'jae" show, the player shared her thoughts on both teams adding new faces to try to improve their game and compete at the highest level after a rollercoaster 2024 season.
First, she touched on Stephanie White returning to Indiana to become the Fever's new coach.
"The Indiana Fever have Stephanie White as head coach, I really like that," she said. "I love that, I feel like she's a player's coach. I even remember when she was recruiting me at Vanderbilt, I was like, 'I like this lady. I wanna go play for her.'"
Then, she talked about Tyler Marsh leaving the Aces to try to lead the Sky's project.
"Tyler Marsh, I'm ready to see how this goes," she added while discussing Marsh's background working with Becky Hammon. "I'm just excited to see how this goes because they have a good young core. ...They are making waves. New teams, new coaches. It's getting real in the WNBA. It's getting serious."
The Fever boasted a 33-47 record under Christie Sides. They made it to the WNBA postseason after a slow start to the season, with Caitlin Clark playing an integral role in their turnaround.
As for the Sky, they spent several weeks as the No. 8 seed in the standings until Angel Reese went down with a season-ending injury, and they lost that spot to the Atlanta Dream. Their 13-27 record wasn't enough to keep Weatherspoon around beyond this season.
WNBA Finals MVP sends 'proud' message to Caitlin Clark, Angel Reese
Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese made an instant impact on the WNBA as soon as they landed. They were pitted against each other by their fans despite their mutual shows of respect. New York Liberty star Jonquel Jones sent a strong message to the rookies on Flau'jae Johnson's show.
"I'm proud of you all when I'm watching you all do what you all doing," Jones said. "You and Angel and Caitlin. ... You all really are elevating women's basketball, and I feel like we gotta make sure we give you all flowers, too." (24:24)
Clark and Reese are expected to lead the new generation of women's basketball.
