"Never get to play in front of my family in America": Satou Sabally drops emotional reaction to Germany's first Olympic win
Satou Sabally and Team Germany started their Olympic journey with a commanding 83-69 win over Belgium. The first game of Group C of the Olympic tournament featured the Dallas Wings star putting on a notable performance to lead her country to the promised land.
This game had a special meaning for Sabally, who plays far away from home in the WNBA and had the chance to play in front of her family. Following the matchup, the former All-Star took to social media to express her feelings about playing in front of her loved ones.
"I never get to play in front of my family in America, so this is special," Sabally captioned the post.
Satou Sabally had a terrific debut in the Olympics, scoring 17 points, although she couldn't make shots consistently, shooting for 30.0% from the field, making three 3-pointers in seven attempts. She shot 8-for-10 from the free-throw line, with six rebounds and two assists.
Germany takes the No. 1 spot in Group C before Team USA makes its much-awaited debut against Japan on Monday. They already faced the Americans ahead of the tournament, but the result wasn't the desired.
Satou Sabally was excited to return to the court against Team USA
After being out of action since February, Satou Sabally returned to the court to face Team USA last week in a Showcase game. Germany couldn't get past the heavy favorites to win the gold medal, but besides the result, Sabally's return got a lot of attention.
Sabally scored eight points against Team USA, to go along with five rebounds, two assists and one block. The game ended in an 84-57 blowout.
Following the game, she took to Instagram and share a short but strong two-word message to announce her return.
"I'm back," she captioned the post.
Satou Sabally had picked up an injury during an Olympic Qualifying tournament in Brazil earlier this year while helping her squad win two games that resulted in the ticket that sent them to the Paris Olympics.
Germany will return to action on Thursdau against Japan for their second game in the group.
She is expected to return to action with the Dallas Wings once the Olympic break ends, keen to get some reps for a team that is pretty much out of the playoffs picture after the first half of the season.
