"Now I'm just laughing": WNBA legend takes a dig at Caitlin Clark's naysayers after rookie's record-breaking game
WNBA legend Lisa Leslie reacted to rookie Caitlin Clark's record-breaking performance during the Indiana Fever's nail-biting 110-109 victory over the Dallas Wings at the Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis on Sunday.
Clark, who seems to set records and reach new milestones with every game, shattered the WNBA record for most points scored by a player in their rookie season. The former Iowa standout set a career-high with an impressive 35-point performance, leading the Fever to their 20th win of the season.
After Clark's latest masterclass, Leslie was left in awe of the rising star's remarkable skillset. The two-time WNBA champion also took a subtle jab at fans and pundits who had doubted the 22-year-old's potential.
"Now I’m just laughing at all the folks who thought it was going to take her some time to adjust. I told ya’ll," Leslie commented on an Instagram post that highlighted Clark setting a career-high in points.
Leslie, who won the WNBA regular season MVP award three times during her glittering career, has been vocal in her admiration of Clark.
When the Fever rookie obliterated the single-season assists record in Indiana's 78-74 defeat to the Las Vegas Aces on Friday, Leslie penned an appreciation message for the one-time WNBA All-Star.
"@CaitlinClark22 You continue to amaze me! Congratulations again!! The record books are in trouble for sure," the two-time WNBA Finals MVP wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
Caitlin Clark's performance vs Dallas Wings
Caitlin Clark delivered another spectacular individual performance as the Indiana Fever improved to 20-19 record after beating the Dallas Wings. After struggling in the previous two games, Clark came out of her mini slump and exploded with an all-round performance.
The 22-year-old scored 35 points on 10-of-22 shooting from the field, including 6-of-14 from the 3-point range in 35:51 minutes.
The Fever rookie, who leads the WNBA in assists this season, dished out eight dimes, collected two rebounds, recorded three steals and turned the ball over five times.
Clark was perfect from the free-throw line, sinking all nine of her attempts with precision.
The former Iowa standout will return to action on Thursday when the Fever face off against the Washington Mystics in their final regular-season game.
Clark will aim to add more milestones to her impressive resume, including the record for most 3-pointers in a season. The rookie is just eight away from tying Sabrina Ionescu's mark of 128.
