"Sarah Strong got some finesse to her game": A'ja Wilson gives her seal of approval to UConn Huskies' No 1 recruit
A'ja Wilson gave UConn Huskies' number one recruit Sarah Strong her flowers after her latest showing against the USC Trojans. The Las Vegas Aces star made a post on Threads praising Strong with a gif and writing:
"Sarah Strong got some finesse to her game! Can’t wait to see her grow thru college!!"
The Huskies youngster showed her talent against JuJu Watkins' Trojans on Saturday, but UConn lost after a tough battle with the final score 72-70. Sarah Strong was the only Huskies player other than Paige Bueckers to score double digits.
Strong arguably delivered a better performance than Bueckers. She scored a double-double netting 22 points, collecting 13 rebounds and providing 5 assists. Meanwhile, Bueckers recorded 22 points, 3 rebounds and 2 assists.
Sarah Strong had a promising resume before the Huskies picked her up. She was named North Carolina Miss Basketball in 2023 and was also honored as the Naismith High School Player of the Year. Strong is the only North Carolina basketball player to be honored as the Naismith High School Player of the Year.
A'ja Wilson named Sports Illustrated's Player of the Year
A'ja Wilson is arguably the biggest name in the WNBA when it comes to accomplishments. The LV Aces star has been incredibly efficient in the past few seasons where she led her team to two back-to-back championship titles and broke multiple scoring records.
Wilson was named as Sports Illustrated's Player of the Year and the Aces star expressed her thoughts on her newest achievement on her Instagram story. She mentioned back her teammate Queen Egbo's story on her own.
Egbo congratulated the reigning WNBA MVP on her story.
"Keep em coming A!" Egbo captioned her post.
SI's Emma Baccellieri made a detailed distinction on the factor that made Wilson stand out last season.
"What made Wilson’s season impressive was not what she did, but how she did it: No one had ever been so efficient while doing so much to impact the game around her. The scoring record may ultimately be the headline of her season. But consider what she did in every other area of the statsheet," she wrote on Wednesday.
A'ja Wilson had an incredible run with the Aces last season. She averaged 26.9 points, 11.9 rebounds and 2.3 rebounds per game and led her team to the semi-finals of the WNBA playoffs.
