“So bad he went to the WNBA” - Fans jokingly react to Jaylen Brown’s near namesake Jaelyn Brown’s career update
WNBA player Jaelyn Brown signed a qualifying offer from the Dallas Wings on Monday. The transaction was made public on social media as she signed with the Wings and fans proceeded to make jokes about Boston Celtics superstar Jaylen Brown.
Instead of congratulating Jaelyn for securing a contract with the Wings, the majority made fun of how Jaylen transitioned to playing in the WNBA instead. Here are some of their reactions on X, formerly Twitter:
"He’s so bad he went to the wnba that’s crazy"
"heard they're interested in jaesyn tatum," another fan wrote, referencing Jaylen Brown's Celtics teammate Jayson Tatum.
"Maybe he’ll be able to use his left hand in the wnba 🤣," one tweeted.
Here are other reactions on X:
"I thought Jaelyn Brown was with the Celtics," one jokingly asked.
"This is like one of those spam emails you get phished for and you gotta read the email location to see where it came from," one said.
"N***a I thought this said Jaylen Brown 😂," another tweeted.
Jaelyn Brown signs with Dallas Wings
WNBA sophomore Jaelyn Brown signed a qualifying offer with the Dallas Wings on Monday, the team announced. Brown, who went undrafted in 2020, previously played overseas before signing with the Wings last year. She appeared in 14 games and even had an opportunity to start in one game.
Looking at the numbers Brown produced in her first stint with the team, she averaged 2.6 points and 1.5 rebounds per game. She also shot 50.0% from three-point range and 48.4% from the field overall.
As of this writing, the Dallas Wings haven't provided any additional information regarding Jaelyn Brown's contract. This means we don't know the length of her contract and how much the team offered her.
Last season, Dallas struggled to secure a spot in the 2024 WNBA Playoffs. The team finished with a 9-31 record and was the second-worst team in the league.
Satou Sabally was the team's star player last season as she averaged 17.9 ppg, 6.4 rpg and 5.0 apg. However, she announced last week that she had played her last game with the team.
Given that the Dallas Wings still have more room to improve and seeking more solid players, Jaelyn Brown can use the opportunity to grow and maybe establish herself in the league.
