The New York Liberty took shots at the Las Vegas Aces' playoff exit after they defeated the reigning back-to-back champions on Sunday to advance to the 2024 WNBA Finals. The Liberty's social media handle shared a meme featuring comedian Druski, captioning the post "It be like that sometimes."

The New York Liberty secured a 2-0 lead to kick off the semifinal series, after which the Las Vegas Aces avoided a sweep with a Game 3 win. The Liberty landed the final blow with a dominant 76-62 win on the road on Sunday to conclude the Aces' hopes of a three-peat run.
Breanna Stewart led the Liberty to victory with her double-double performance of 19 points, 14 rebounds, five assists, one steal and four blocks. Meanwhile, WNBA MVP A'ja Wilson led the Aces' losing effort with her double-double stat line of 19 points, 10 rebounds, one assist, one steal and five blocks.
With the win, the New York Liberty got revenge for the outcome of their playoff clash against the Las Vegas Aces in the WNBA Finals last season.
Breanna Stewart emotional after New York Liberty get revenge over Las Vegas Aces
After winning the semifinal series on Sunday, Breanna Stewart grew "emotional" for reasons beyond making the WNBA Finals for the second consecutive season.
The last time the two teams faced each other in the playoffs was during the 2023 WNBA Finals, during which Stewart's father-in-law had died due to illness. The series concluded in favor of Las Vegas, and afterward, the Aces members reportedly had comments over Stewart's performances.
During the postgame interview after securing revenge for the outcome last year, the two-time WNBA MVP referred to the death anniversary of her father-in-law before saying that she kept "receipts" of the apparent trash talk she faced last season.
"And you know, I have receipts on the things that were said — the entire team does," Stewart said. "My mentality today was to go in and get this win for my wife and her dad."
Meanwhile, Las Vegas Aces coach Becky Hammon touched on their trash talk last season while clarifying that she respects the Liberty team.
“We talked our crap,” Hammon said. “They heard it and they get to talk their crap. It’s part of the game, it’s not personal. I can talk whatever I want and at the end of the day, I have mad respect for Sandy [Brondello], Sab [Sabrina Ionescu], Stewie. I have mad respect for those players.”
While the New York Liberty have overcome the reigning champions, their job is not yet finished on the quest for their first WNBA championship title.
