What happened to Nika Muhl? Looking at Storm rookie's devastating injury in Super League game

Seattle Storm rookie Nika Muhl has reportedly sustained an injury. Muhl, who began playing overseas after the Las Vegas Aces eliminated the Storm from the playoffs, had to be removed from her latest contest on a stretcher.

An update reveals that she suffered a torn left ACL.

The 23-year-old is part of the Turkish team Besiktas JK, which was playing against Fenerbahce in the Super League when Muhl's injury occurred. The UConn alum fell to the floor during the third quarter of the game after grabbing a rebound.

After falling, she wailed in pain while her teammates and coaching staff tended to her. She repeatedly told those around her not to touch her knee. Eventually, medical staff took her to the locker room on a stretcher.

She joined her teammates on the bench later, but didn't return to action. There is no timetable for her recovery.

Looking back at Nika Muhl's WNBA rookie season

After four years at UConn, where she proved to be a staunch defender and reliable playmaker, Nika Muhl was drafted 14th overall by the Seattle Storm.

Muhl quickly became a fan favorite despite not seeing much playing time. She made her WNBA debut five games into the Storm's schedule on May 22 when her team faced Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever. That evening, the defensive specialist saw two minutes of action while grabbing two rebounds.

Muhl played 16 games during her first WNBA season, averaging 3.6 minutes per game. The Croat enjoyed extra court time against the Phoenix Mercury in the Storm's finale.

That day, Muhl played 14 minutes and scored her first WNBA field goal. Her basket came after she forced a turnover and converted an easy layup.

Nika Muhl received DNP-CDs in the Seattle Storm's first-round Playoff matchup against the Las Vegas Aces.

While adjusting to WNBA life, she totaled two points, ten rebounds, seven assists and two steals. She went 1-for-14 from the field and 0-for-11 from downtown.
